Rudy Giuliani, Trump’s legal spokesman whose connection to reality these days is tenuous at best, says that Trump has nothing to fear from Paul Manafort pleading guilty and cooperating with the Mueller investigation. He says Manafort’s lawyers told him just a few days ago that he doesn’t have anything incriminating to turn over.
Trump attorney Rudolph W. Giuliani said that Manafort’s legal team assured him as recently as Saturday — the day after Manafort struck a plea deal with special counsel Robert S. Mueller III — that he has no information that will incriminate the president or his family, including eldest son Donald Trump Jr.Giuliani said he also thinks that Manafort has no evidence to suggest the Trump campaign colluded with Russians.
“We’ve talked to their side,” Giuliani said. “The statement is, there is nothing that is adverse to the president, the Trump family, the Trump campaign.”
And if you believe that, I’ve got a washed out bridge in Wilmington, North Carolina to sell you. Look, Mueller does not make this deal if he didn’t already know what Manafort had and was willing to testify to and turn over to him. He had to make a proffer before any deal was extended to him and Mueller doesn’t even consider making such a deal if what Manafort gave him isn’t very, very important. Remember, he already had Manafort convicted and facing the rest of his life in prison and there were more charges yet to come that would only add to the sentence. The only possible reason he would have for agreeing to the deal is if Manafort gave them very valuable information on someone more important, and that can only mean Trump or a Trump family member (Don, Jr., aka Fredo).
