Missional Conversations with … Kathy Escobar

Last month, I decided to start a series of monthly #missionalchat conversations on Twitter, on the third Monday of the month (which is also when I'm planning to post on the Emergent Village Voice blog).Back in December, the conversation was around the terms "incarnational" vs. "missional" for the type of ministry we're talking about in the emerging church. I had the privilege of doing that first experimental #missionalchat with Kathy Escobar, co-pastor of The Refuge and author of Down We … [Read more...]

Remembering Dr. King

Today we remember Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.  I consider him one of my heroes.  In fact, my wife and I are in the process of planning a southern vacation to the Memphis area in a few months to visit some of the historic sites.  He was a pioneer of peace.  A leader fueled by love.  May we all continue to follow in his footsteps, furthering his work of peace and reconciliation.  Enjoy the video. … [Read more...]

Quoting God by Randy Woodley

Ok, I first need to admit to you, this is not my first time at the rodeo. I’ve been around unorganized Christianity for a while. And it's … [Read more...]

Emerging Church Still Making Headlines

Reforme-cover-story-3442

The reports of the emerging church's death are greatly exaggerated. The existence of the new Emergent Village Voice blog is one example of a new chapter that's being written. My experience with the Charlotte Emergent cohort over the past eight years reminds me over and over as I meet and talk with new people joining the conversation every month. Then there's the ongoing media attention that this movement continues to receive, 10+ years on.Brian McLaren, Phyllis Tickle, and I were … [Read more...]

Two Events for the Missional Church

Funding the Missional Church

When Doug and I started The JoPa Group, it was an effort to resource the missional church for a sustainable future.  We've been running social media boot camps and some other events over the last couple years.  But we're especially excited about what we've got planned for 2012.  We'll be hosting two consecutive events in Minneapolis in May: Funding the Missional Church will take place in Minneapolis, May 1-3.  It's a conference to explore the best thinking and practices in building sustainable g … [Read more...]
