Did Jesus Preach the Gospel?

Sometime ago, John Piper preached a sermon, “Did Jesus preach Paul’s Gospel?” In contrast, Scot McKnight has a sermon called “Did Jesus preach the Gospel?”

The frustrating aspect of John Piper’s sermon is that the conclusion is stated at the beginning but is not quite what is meant. His conclusion seems to be that Jesus and Paul preached the same gospel but in fact what Piper really means, it seems to me, is that Jesus preaches the same gospel as John Piper (and 1000s of evangelicals including myself). But the intriguing question is whether Paul preached the same gospel as Jesus and what implications this has for the gospel we need to preach. Although Piper’s sermon appears to claim faithfulness to the Bible all it really establishes in faithfulness to evangelicalism.
