Final judgment “on the basis” of works – who said it?

Can you guess who made this statement:

The biblical truth that I want us to understand, believe, and live by today is this: a time is coming when every responsible person, on the basis of his or her actions and attitudes, will meet the final judgment of God either as eternal life or as wrath and fury.

I think Piper’s views were much influenced by Dan Fuller back then, so that is not a surprising statement from him in 1980.

Future Grace was one of the first books that I read by John Piper. (Dan Fuller’s influence shows up in that book quite a bit). So, I was a little surprised by Piper’s reaction to Wright. I thought that they were saying the same thing.

Has Piper retracted this statement? I wouldn’t think he would because he says something similar in The Future of Justificaiton.

Despite the debates would he not say something similar today? I listened to a video clip where he spoke (as I remember it) of God opening a filing cabinet and taking out a file – the file of Piper’s life. God looked at all the paper in the file and took most of it and threw it away but a little was left, that which was the fruit of God’s activity in his life. It was the proof he was real and fit for heaven.

I may be remembering this poorly so I hope I am not doing Piper an injustice. I stand to be corrected.

Yes, I’ve heard him say that kind of thing a lot.
