    Mike,

Sadly this story is a stark reminder of the fact that Christians in the most powerful western nations on earth often don’t side with, or support, their own. Mother Agnes-Mariam’s story serves as a case-in-point: an argument can be made that America’s foreign policy in favouring Israel is, in some part, due to the considerable political weight/influence exercised by the Fundamentalist, Evangelical and (perhaps especially) Dispensational voter bloc in that country. And this despite the fact that the overwhelming majority of Christians in the Levant are Palestinian!

Having been disenfranchised from Palestine as a child, Mother Agnes-Mariam now has to contend with a pro-Islamist western preference in the self-destructing Syria. I’m somewhat appalled that the West seems to have forgotten what happens when it sides with, supports and/or arms militant Islamists in their intra-national power struggles. Yesterday’s Afghani Mujahideen has become today’s Taliban. What, I wonder, will be tomorrow’s Syria?

    Blessings,

    Ian
