Use Halloween to make your kids into active global citizens. Yep, it’s possible. October 15, 2012

I can’t believe I had never heard of Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF before I became a member of the Global Team of 200 earlier this month.  The more I learned about this program the more I wish I had known about it.  As a kid, I would have loved to do something like this.  And not to brag, but I would have done it like a boss.  I digress.

  • Here’s the gist: In 62 years UNICEF has raised over $167 million to provide kiddo’s in 190 countries and territories with health care and immunizations, clean water and sanitation, nutrition, education, emergency relief and more.
  • Here’s how it works: You request the very cute collection boxes & fundraise in as many creative ways as possible alongside your kiddo’s.  After Halloween you send in the donations.  Easy-peasy.
  • Here’s why it’s worth the effort: Saving children’s lives aside, doing some of these simple things encourages healthy responsibility for our little ones to raise funds for their peers who are in need.  Helping them to fundraise puts them in partnership with us to secure justice while making them active global citizens.  Well, dang.  That’s exactly the kind of parent I want to be.  Just finished ordering my boxes!

I am really looking forward to teaching little R2 to say, “can you donate to impoverished kids globally?” while he proudly holds out his collection box.  If I can get it on video, trust me, I will. =)

So, why not?  Go ahead & order your collection boxes today, time’s a tickin’!

Below: Here’s some ideas for how you can organize your tribe to fundraise well throughout October.

Below that: Some fundraising goals you can set with your kiddo’s to help them understand how much money meets what sort of need.

Do me a favor?  Pin the images below so we can get the word out for this unique opportunity to care for the world’s poor.

I am so excited to do this with meh beh beh’s!  After Halloween, I’ll circle back with some pictures & a report of what we were able to do.

Have you ever done anything like this, as a kid yourself or otherwise?  Anyone really excited to do this with your kiddo’s? Anything I can help you with to get started?
