Presidential Who’s Who Scam

I’d like to express my gratitude to the scammers behind Presidential Who’s Who for sending me an e-mail today and thus giving me this opportunity to warn others about them. The e-mail below contains a link that supposedly leads to the web site of this “prestigious organization.” But the link takes you to a different site first – if you just type in the address yourself, you’ll find the site is a dud.

So be warned – like every other Who’s Who organization I’ve heard of thus far, this is a scam. Don’t fall for it!

Here’s the text of the message I received, which is presumably identical to that received by many others:

Presidential Who’s Wh0

Dear James,

It’s our pleasure inform you that on January 5th, 2010 your information was reviewed and accepted for inclusion in the 2010 edition.

Presidential Who’s Who Each year, recognizes and selects key executives, professionals and organizations in all disciplines and industries for outstanding business and professional achievements.

This recognition is shared by those who have reached a distinguished level of success in their chosen profession.

Please take a moment to complete the invitation by clicking on the link below. We ask that you complete it carefully, as it will be reviewed by our editorial department.

http://www.2009presidentialwhoswho.net/index.php

As a reminder, Presidential Who’s Who is pleased to inform you that there are no fees or dues to be included in the publication. This email serves as a Final Notification for potential members who have not yet replied. Our publication deadline is approaching in early February and we urge you to take advantage of this once in a lifetime opportunity!

On behalf of the CEO and our esteemed staff, we wish you continued success.

Sincerely,

MarkAnthony McGuiness

Chief Operations Officer

This so called company has been sending out junk faxes for a number of years now according to posts I have seen. I was sent a junk fax myself from Presidential whos who and have filed a TCPA suit against them. Springwater125@yahoo.com

You bet. My boss was stupid enough to fall for this one. I saw the scam mail come into the office, I didn't open the envelope but, decided to check it out online because the logo looked symbolically corrupt. I found the website and knew immediately that it was a scam. Additionally, if you look up the street address on Google Maps you don't find anything that would resemble a reputable business as it claims to be. To finish the story, I noticed the new personalized plaque on my bosses wall yesterday (after he returned from vacation) and now all I can do is laugh under my breath everytime I see it. Nice guy but unable to recognize when his EGO is taking over. May God bless the feable minded.PS. Viva la Revolution. Don't let the bankers take over the world. Stand up for your rights while you still can. Courage.

I too received a fax from this scam artist. I wonder how they got my fax number. I called the 888 # at the bottom of the page and removed my fax number from their list. It is in tiny print but call so we don't waste paper and ink on such a shameful scam. Shame on them.

  • http://batsongroupmarketingandpr.blogspot.com Eileen Batson

Yup! I got one too. Guess this is their time of year to spam!

  • http://www.blogger.com/profile/18305053177208096411 darlene

I received the identical notice but by email and deleted it a few weeks ago. Today I received another notice with a reminder that the deadline is approaching. I suspect it's a scam because I've done nothing deserving to receive such an award. Suspicion that they will ask for money before publication led me to do an online search — which led me to this blog. Glad to know others feel the same about this notice — it's a SCAM. Don't respond to it.

  • Anonymous

Count me in too. I received it in fax form. I was quite honored to be addressed as "Dear Company owner." Fortunately, my fax is electronic so no trees were killed in its reception. Only electrons.

  • http://www.blogger.com/profile/14348215938089940759 jjtc

I have received the same fax from these people several times and each time I have requested to be removed from any further faxes, I just got another one today.

I thought this sounded intersting at first. I spoke with someone calling from "Who's Who" and as I spoke and answered questions I realized I really didn't fit the profile of an executive. I reased this point but was reasured that you need to start somewhere and some of my qualifications assured me of a place in Who's Who. Then proceeded to sell me a package at $894.45 /yr. This raised some suspicion so I googled them and found this Blog … my suspicions reconfirmed by other's experiences.

  • Anonymous

Glad I did some googling. I received the same request to enter my information to become part of this "prestigious" group. I hope that any one receiving this notice will also google and be forewarned! I hate rip off artists, especially when they use something in their titling that is so misleading…"presidential" yeah, right!

  • Anonymous

I received one such "Who's Who Scam" today by email. What have I done to deserve such a prestigious award? I am glad my search brought me to this Blog. I'll see if I can block future emails!

  • Anonymous

I too received this email just this week. Once you take a look at the website it's fairly easy to see that this is completely rediculous. There are no standards for inclusion, no bylaws, no real defining characteristics of what it takes to qualify. What a waste of time to even finish reading that email.

  • Anonymous

I just received a phone call from someone at this "supposed" organization. He wouldn't let me off the phone until I purchased something. Each time I denied, he lowered the "level" and cost. He really was not going to take no as an answer. I finally had to hang up on him.

  • Anonymous

Thanks for the blog. I just got the same e-mail (4/22/10) and searched it because it sounded so stupid in the first place. The annoying thing is it made it though my company's rather stringent fire wall into my office e-mail.

  • Anonymous

yup, got the same email on 4/20/2010. Filled out the form answered all the question and then I was told by Rob,(the representative) that I had 2 options; membership at a level of $894.00, which would include my picture and othe stuff being posted and the other option without photo was $684 something. When I declined the $894.00 offer he continued with the scam. thanks for this blog

SOB's should be dismembered and fed to ravenous scooter monkeys. I to received this crap on my fax. I feel sorry for the poor souls who so easily depart with their hard earned money for this one.

  • CJ

I received my second fax from these people on 5/3/2010…I'm not even going to bother unsubscribing using their 877 number at the bottom as that usually submits you to more junk mail.I almost thought about calling the company to ask them some questions, but then I googled the company and found several message boards. I've taken the time to google other boards where this scam has been noted, and it sounds like even the UK and Australia are getting this e-mail…anyone they can get contact info on. I hope people read these boards before falling for the hoax!!!https://www.blogger.com/comment.g?blogID=7622297540113836091&postID;=6062100656458863903http://withoutapurpose.blogspot.com/2006/05/gee-wiz-im-candidate-for-whos-who.htmlhttp://www.commerce.wa.gov.au/ConsumerProtection/scamnet/Scams/Presidential_Whos_W.htmlhttp://www.sermonaudio.com/new_details3.asp?ID=22741http://david.baldaro.me.uk/2009/04/my-recent-nomination-to-presidential-whos-who-leaves-me-feeling-like-a-vip/

Our company got one today also. I'm grateful I had the forethought to google the company prior to filling it out and came upon the scam. Hope these scammers get the book thrown at them.

Thank god for your comments. My husband got an email from this company at work and brought it home. I never heard of this company so I goggled it and found your comments. Shame on them for sending it to a school teacher.

Well I am glad I googled "Presidential Who's Who and found your posting. I received the same "congratulatory letter yesterday" So it appears they are recruiting once again. ThanksFrom Texas

I was stupid enough to fall for this about 18 months ago, but persistent enough to get all my money back.It is a scam under many names, Cambridge, Manchester, Presidential, Distinguished Professional. Same email, different company name and sign off, ….but the same scam

Unbelievable ignorance! A "Dr." Elliott Donovan contacted me and left a VERY rude message on my voicemail stating that Who's Who has been trying to reach me for months and they don't understand why I am not returning their calls. I spoke with someone at Who's Who several months ago to tell them that I was not interested in being in their publication but the calls continued. I will be filing a complaint with TCPA. If you get a call from Elliott Donovan he is very impatient, abrupt and rude so be prepared to be hung up on like I was when I questioned his intentions. If this is a legitimate company, (please note that I don't think it is)what terrible representation they have in Elliott Donovan. His lack of professionalism makes a mockery of the company's mission of recognizing exceptional prefessionals. Bravo for giving me a chuckle for the day Donovan. I only wish you used your time more valuably instead of being a amateur scam artist.

I Just received one of these faxes and would like to thank you all for posting on this blog. I always go to the internet when something like this comes in. Thanks,From San Jose

Got my fax today! It looked a little odd so I performed an online search, as any intelligent person should these days, only to find this lovely blog. Thank you all!

Just got one of these faxes and thank you for letting people know about these scams.

Got my fax today!! Googled it and found your blog. Thanks for exposing this SCAM!!!!

  • Anonymous

My turn to post I jot one of these faxes! Why do people even waste the time to do this. Don't they know google is everyone's bestfriend and will investigate the fax further… What a scam!!!

  • Gina in MD

Just got an email from them. Excuse my ignorance, but doesn't a scam usually have to include the scammer getting something from the "scammee" that he wouldn't otherwise get in the absence of the scam? In this case, faxing back info that's already in the public domain seems fruitless for the scammer. Can a more intelligent member of this august body clue me in?

  • Anonymous

Haa Haa Haa, I got one today too. I am a stay at home single mother who has not worked (at a paying job) for over 20 years. I appreciate their acknowledgment of my "distinguished level of success in my chosen profession" I do bake a damn good cookie, word must have leaked out.

  • Anonymous

Here it is on Sept 13, 2010 and they are still out for the reward. The only reward is that we all band together to provide a non-scamming network. Gladd I googled too! I would love to try those cookies from the post above though!! Hahaha.

  • Anonymous

Thanks to this blog, my suspicions have been confirmed. This is just another twist to the slew of scams out there.

  • Anonymous

This blog is great conversation, however I see about 30 complaints here and only 2 with the Better Business Bureau. The BBB is where most people will default to in their research of legitimacy of businesses and organizations. I would encourage you all to file complaints there as well in order to make more of an impact. It would also be helpful to know if anyone was taken advantage of what steps they may cancel or pursue a refund.

  • Anonymous

Big scam and I fell for it! Their product looks like it was done on a copy machine by a five year old! I filed with the New York attorney general's office after losing $1500. to these ***holes! Instead of returning my money they keep trying to sell me their new piece of junk!

  • Anonymous

This group was also fined by the Federal Communications Commission at the end of 2010 for mass fax advertising. Fine was $345,000 but they are still faxing their ads and scamming folks. If you lost money, file with the Attorney General, the FCC and keep at it. Maybe we can get a class action suit against them and close 'em down!

  • Anonymous

I too was lied to by Presidential Who's Who. I canceled the membership the same day, November 29, 2011 and still have not received my refund. I have spoken to Pamela, Elliot Donovan, Joe Leone and so he says the CEO Frank Chicio. All lie. No one returns your calls. BEWARE!! SCAM!! CHEATERS!!

  • http://www.blogger.com/profile/15917523586496224611 Dietwine

I just hung up the phone with Presidential Who's Who. I was chosen for this Prestigous Award. But, I had to pay $1,500 to get it. I explained to them that "If I was to receive such an honor, I should be treated honorably. I shouldn't have to pay to receive an award." After much bickering, he offered me the Award for $200. Of course, I turned it down. The only people I know as reputable is the NAPW, National Association for Professional Women. Which I am a member.

What is most interesting is the legal confidentiality notice:

Of course this carries no weight in law. Prohibited by whom? Once it is in my inbox I can do what I like with it (at least I can here). Scammers like you to keep things confidential for obvious reasons.

I see also that “Benjamin Morrison” has also been editor in chief of “Professional Who’s Who” in recent times. The Various “Who’s Who” Scams in the NY area go back decades; I have just finished listening to the audiobook “Faces of Fraud” by Martin Biegelman, a long time fraud investigator. In that he talks in detail about how he busted that operation. It looks to me like the original perpetrators are now out of jail and back to doing what they do best to a new generation of suckers.

If you fill in the form on their site, expect to be contacted over a wide range of scams. As well as this scam ( there will be demands for money, trust me), I suspect your details will be put on a sucker list and sold to various other scammers. I recommend not putting your telephone number unless you like being constantly pestered.
