On Installing a New University President

Yesterday, after the subject had come up of Butler University having recently installed its new president, someone asked me why it is that universities have this custom of hiring a new president and then, some months later, having an “installation.”

I thought for a second and then replied, “It is a technological metaphor. For the first hundred days or so, we were downloading our new president, and once the download was complete, we installed him.”

Reminds me of the comment a Brit made in a mystery I read recently: passing by the First Assembly of God church, he remarked, “I suppose they put the chromium wheels on elsewhere?”

Interesting.  So how to we go about pushing out updates? When do we decide to upgrade to OS President 6.1?
    ;-)

And what if version 6.0 catches a virus?
