AAR and SBL Call for Papers: The End is Near!

First, Daniel Kirk shared some advice about browser issues when submitting paper proposals – in short, if you have issues with one browser, try another!

The SBL paper proposal deadline is a little over an hour away. If you plan to submit one, you need to do so quickly! Bloggers who've submitted their proposals are already beginning to mention them, as have Joel Watts and Dan McClellan. And those who chair sessions are putting out frantic last-minute reminders, as Chris Spinks has.

For those on the AAR side, this announcement was sent out:

PAPERS DEADLINE EXTENDED – SUBMISSION DEADLINE IS NOW MARCH 4, 2013
Great news for all the procrastinators out there! PAPERS will remain open for submissions until Monday, March 4, 2013, 11:59 PM EST. Submit your proposal today and beat the rush!.
You can access the PAPERS submission system at any time.

There is an exploratory AAR session that is being organized, “Traditions of East Late Antiquity,” with the aim of developing a new program unit which can provide a home for the study of religious traditions that do not currently have a natural one – Zoroastrianism, Manichaeism, and Mandaeism in particular – as well as the study of the intersection of these traditions and others (including but not limited to Judaism, Christianity, and Islam) in late antiquity in the regions East of the Roman Empire. The reason for the specific title is multifold, and includes making sure that the exploration of the modern or later forms of those religious traditions which were prominent in late antiquity is included, as well as the enjoyment of being able to use “East LA” as shorthand for the section. If you are interested in it, please do let me know!

Your links go to Butler mail – not to a place where a paper could be proposed. The SBL site crashed on me last night and I can’t find anywhere to put a proposal back in. Can you help? (stenagmois at gmail dot com)

The AAR links that I copied from my e-mail ended up with Butler mail links, but the rest seem fine, including the SBL ones. I would just contact the chair of the relevant section via e-mail letting them know that you had browser issues last night and were unable to submit. They will probably be understanding.

Thanks – I have done this.
