I came across this image online:
It is perhaps less than convincing to try to think of this as anything other than “Saint Peter's Church” with a missing letter, since anyone who would get the apostrophe correct in “Peter's” would surely also put one in “Ain't” – or perhaps more likely write “This is not.”
But there are still lots of ways to have a good conversation using this image as a starting point. To whom do churches belong? To whom does the Church belong? Is the church today not merely different from that in the first century, but so different that someone from the first century who arrived here would not recognize it as the same religion as their own?
And can one letter really make that much of a difference?
Feel free to talk about any and all of the above here, if you are so inclined!
