Clean Up After Your Worldview

All worldviews leave “crumbs.” Bits that don’t fit, that won’t stick.

There is nothing wrong with that. All our worldviews are human constructs, imperfect attempts to do justice to a reality more complex than they are. They crumble, and break, and in other ways show their imperfections.

But what is a problem is when people pretend that things are otherwise. They are like the people who eat a crumbly cookie, and as the mess on the floor becomes worse and worse, they become increasingly agitated and yet feign nonchalance, perhaps even moving slowly away from the spot and then shaking their head at the mess that “someone” had made.

Cookies and worldviews crumble. That yours does so is nothing to be embarrassed about.

But pretending that it isn’t leaving crumbs, and not being willing to acknowledge and clean up the mess that results – that is a problem.

So kindly clean up after your worldview.

Excellent little essay. Fun and an important message to remember for all of us.

I wish that Hamster could express himself with as much humility.

      Your pet hamster leaves crumbs?

      • Just Sayin’

No, but my cat used to!

I was referring to Ken Ham, whom Dr. McGrath sometimes posts about. Ham is a notoriously intemperate YE Creationist.

          LOL — got it!
