When Science Fiction Becomes Fact

While the importance of science fiction is not limited to or even necessarily focused in its ability to accurately predict future science and technology, it should not be missed that it also does that – sometimes by inspiring people to develop the things imagined.

    Nice chart. I’m amazed to read that From the Earth to the Moon featured solar sails – I certainly don’t remember such a thing.

    One they missed was Isaac Asimov’s prediction in Foundation (1951) of something not unlike a tablet computer. He even called it a “pad”!
