The news broke today that a new Star Trek series will be made, to premiere in January 2017 on CBS’s online digital streaming service, CBS All Access. That is definitely an example of Star Trek going where it has never gone before in its typical pioneering fashion.
Since the executive producer will be Alex Kurtzman, it seems safe to presume that there will be some continuity with the rebooted film series.
