Reviving the Heart of Our Democracy: Watch the Rev. William Barber’s Soul-Stirring Speech at the DNC

Reviving the Heart of Our Democracy: Watch the Rev. William Barber’s Soul-Stirring Speech at the DNC August 3, 2016

Last week at the Democratic National Convention, the remarkable Rev. Dr. William Barber II delivered an electrifying speech on the need to revive the heart of our democracy. His rousing words, delivered like a true revivalist preacher, effectively introduced millions of people to one of today’s most powerful and important preacher/activists and his grassroots movement for a moral revival.

The video of his speech has been watched more than 64,000 times and the Moral Agenda has been signed by over 8,000 people of faith and friends! If you missed it, please take a few minutes now to watch his stunning speech.

The day after his speech, The Rev. Barber wrote this letter, sent out from the Groundswell Movement via the Auburn Theological Seminary:

Last night, I used every second I was given on the main stage at the Democratic National Convention to preach about the desperate need for a moral revival in this country.

I spoke the need to shock our nation’s heart back to life, with the power of love and mercy and justice for all.

We can’t let faith be cynically used by some to serve hate, racism, and greed.

Some issues aren’t left vs. right or liberal vs. conservative. They are simply right vs. wrong.

We are being called, like our mothers and fathers, to be the moral defibrillators of our time.

We will not give up on the heart of our democracy. Not now. Not ever.

If you agree with this movement that we’re building, I hope you’ll sign the open letter calling on our elected officials and candidates for office to advance a public policy agenda that lifts up our deepest moral traditions to reach our highest values of love and justice:

Please forward this message right now to three friends – it’ll be a powerful way to spread the moral revolution of values in our communities.

Sincerely,

Rev. Dr. William J. Barber II
