Viral Video Nears One Million Views as Faith Community Urges Senators to Back Arms Treaty

When people come together around a common cause, it gets noticed. Last Friday, the American Values Network (AVN), an organization seeking to encourage community and family values in America, launched a video of two children explaining why U.S. Senators should support the international Arms Trade Treaty (ATT). In under a week, the video has already racked up nearly 1 million views. And the press is taking notice, including stories from The Christian Post and Ecumenical News.

The girls remind the world that the Vatican, the World Evangelical Alliance, the Pentagon, and many leading generals and admirals are all supporting this treaty. Lead by the U.S., the majority of the free world supports the ATT and President Obama is set to sign it later this summer. In fact, the only countries to vote against the treaty were North Korea, Iran, and Syria. And yet, a handful of Senators have said they might oppose the ATT, even though the American Bar Association has stated that it will in no way impact U.S. domestic gun ownership.

The ATT has broad support from religious communities across the ideological spectrum who believe that the human cost of allowing warlords and terror organizations free access to weapons and ammo warrants action. The girls in AVN’s video remind us of our responsibility to the women and children in these developing countries that are everyday subjected to unchecked militant regimes. We can only hope that our Senators put common sense before politics and do the right thing.
