Diablo Cody Tweets About Rescuing Jinger Duggar

Her new movie, Paradise, is all about religion. In the movie, which was originally titled Lamb of God, a young religious woman (Julianne Hough) is in a terrible accident, which causes her to question G-d and run off to Las Vegas to see what sin feels like.Well, it looks like screenwriter/director Diablo Cody had some pretty specific pop-culture inspirations for the movie: The Duggars. Particularly Jinger. Diablo recently tweeted that if Jinger ever wants to run away from her family, she can … [Read more...]

The New Romcom ‘Jewtopia’ Appears to Have One or Two Actual Jews In It

There's a new romantic comedy coming out called Jewtopia. As far as I can tell from the trailer, it's about two best friends, one who is Jewish and marries a Jewish woman and one who's not Jewish but desperate to marry a Jewish woman so that "he never has to make decisions again" (charming). Jamie-Lynn Sigler (who is actually Jewish) and Jennifer Love Hewitt (who is not) play the respective female leads. I didn't laugh once during the trailer, but I'll consider putting it on my Netflix list if … [Read more...]

Religion Is at the Forefront in Diablo Cody’s New Movie ‘Paradise’

In Oscar-winning screenwriter Diablo Cody's directorial debut, Paradise, a young woman (Julianne Hough) finds herself questioning and challenging her Christian faith after she gets in a plane accident. The woman's name is Lamb, in case you didn't think there was enough religious symbolism going on here. The movie costars Octavia Spencer, Russell Brand, Holly Hunter, and Nick freaking Offerman, so, yeah, I'll watch it. … [Read more...]

When the Jodi Arias trial captured headlines across the country this year, it seemed inevitable that a Lifetime movie would follow. And Lifetime delivered, making a movie called Jodi Arias: Dirty Little Secret, which premiered this past weekend with Lost star Tania Raymonde in the title role. Although the movie changes some stuff for drama (TODAY has a good roundup), I knew that the Mormon church was going to play a role in the movie. Jodi's ex-boyfriend, whom she killed, was Travis Alexander, a … [Read more...]

Frances Bean Cobain Called Twilight ‘A Sexist Mormon Piece of Shit’

frances-cobain-twilight

For some reason, a producer for the film Twilight thought it would be a great idea to get Frances Bean Cobain, daughter of Kurt Cobain and Courtney Love, to play the female lead in the movie. Frances isn't an actress and has mostly stayed out of the spotlight as an adult (which - good on her). Courtney told Howard Stern that when Frances got the offer to play Bella, she turned it down, saying that Twilight was "a sexist Mormon piece of shit." The author of the series, Stephenie Meyer, is LDS, … [Read more...]
