Schumer’s use of the statue of freedom in his speech in one of those cheesy aspect of political speech…that I love.

    “In that spirit of faith….”

  • http://www.patheos.com/blogs/faithpromotingrumor/ Chris H.

A prayer for all of our leaders. Oh, do we need it.

  • http://www.patheos.com/blogs/faithpromotingrumor/ Chris H.

Inherent dignity and inalienable rights….that is my liberalism. I love public prayers as inspirational political discourse. Reminds me of not only MLK, but also Emerson and Thoreau.

I am watching on my local CBS affiliate.

  • http://inmedias.blogspot.com Russell Arben Fox

Not loving the prayer, but I suppose that’s just my own faith-language preferences speaking.

  • http://www.patheos.com/blogs/faithpromotingrumor/ Chris H.

“The prayers of our grandmothers who taught us to pray…” Amazing. Eloquent poetic. “I Jesus’ name and all who are holy….”

  • http://www.patheos.com/blogs/faithpromotingrumor/ Chris H.

Russell, it is a very foreign language to my Mormon ears. Maybe why I enjoyed it :)

  • http://www.patheos.com/blogs/faithpromotingrumor/ Chris H.

    The BROOKLYN Tabernacle Choir.

I love this song. I was the only hymn I ever had my classed sing as a class while teaching American Heritage at BYU-Idaho and BYU.

  • http://www.patheos.com/blogs/faithpromotingrumor/ Chris H.

“Find the good and praise it.” Alex Haley

  • http://www.patheos.com/blogs/faithpromotingrumor/ Chris H.

Republican US Senator Lamar Alexander shared the above in praise of our tradition of peaceful transitions of power. Something I appreciate more and more each year.

  • Dwight Welch

Watching Lamar Alexander, one almost imagines what bi partisanship looks like?

  • Dwight Welch

Sonya, one of the reasons I voted for Obama

Justice Sotomayer made it back from her book signing in NYC.

    Biden 2016

  • http://www.patheos.com/blogs/faithpromotingrumor/ Chris H.

Dwight, I hope his colleagues in the House understood what Alexander’s words mean.

  • http://www.patheos.com/blogs/faithpromotingrumor/ Chris H.

James Taylor…I am glad we can be diverse enough to include old people. :)

  • http://www.patheos.com/blogs/faithpromotingrumor/ Chris H.

    “Congratulations. Mr. President!”

  • Dwight Welch

“While freedom may be a gift from God, it must be secured by his people on earth.” Amen!

  • http://inmedias.blogspot.com Russell Arben Fox

American the Beautiful is a better song, with a better message. I don’t dislike the Star-Spangled Banner, or the Battle Hymn of the Republic for that matter, but JT sang the best song of the day.

  • http://www.patheos.com/blogs/faithpromotingrumor/ Chris H.

“A great nation must care for the vulnerable.”

  • Dwight Welch

some theological language; liberty a gift of God but secured by human work, the ideal and the actual

  • http://www.patheos.com/blogs/faithpromotingrumor/ Chris H.

Russell, I would vote for the Battle Hymn for the nation anthem, but I realize that it would be too divisive for some, particularly the south. While I love poking at the South….not the purpose of the Anthem.

  • http://www.patheos.com/blogs/faithpromotingrumor/ Chris H.

    Carpe Diem

  • Dwight Welch

a real rising tide that actually lifts all boats

  • http://www.patheos.com/blogs/faithpromotingrumor/ Chris H.

I am hoping that these egalitarian themes are more prominent in the second terms. I am feeling somewhat more confident about it giving Pres. Obama’s performance over the last two months.

  • http://www.patheos.com/blogs/faithpromotingrumor/ Chris H.

In order for all boats to rise…everyone must have boats. Too many of us are struggling to stay afloat in what is the economic equivalent of life-jackets.

  • Dwight Welch

moving past false choices, a speech that harkens back to a social covenant

  • http://www.patheos.com/blogs/faithpromotingrumor/ Chris H.

  • http://www.patheos.com/blogs/faithpromotingrumor/ Chris H.

I am wearing my “got hope” t-shirt from 2008. I am feeling more hopeful now then when I put it on this morning.

  • http://www.patheos.com/blogs/faithpromotingrumor/ Chris H.

Name call is not reasoned debate…crap…I will work on that one.

  • http://www.patheos.com/blogs/faithpromotingrumor/ Chris H.
