Review: Why I Won’t be Watching “The Following”

I don't watch television often. I might -- might -- see one or two shows a week. My favs currently are The Mentalist, NCIS, NCIS LA --- you know, action, slight intrigue, a little mystery, but mostly adventure where you are reasonable certain the main characters will survive.I've watched Bones also --a least until it got weird with the whole Booth and Bones finally becoming a couple with a kid. I actually enjoyed the show that spun off it last year, The Finder before the untimely death of one o … [Read more...]

The Angel of the Lord Appeared, Armed with a Smoking AR-15

OK. Work with me here.As I was studying Scripture in preparation for a few posts on the hot topic of gun control, I began to come across quite a few verses that depicted the angel of the Lord as being armed and dangerous. My basic thinking was that, of course, guns do not appear in the Bible. So there will be no proof-texting for either side. But weapons certainly do appear. Often. And often in the hands of angels. No, not those Angels. Maybe we'll get back to the 1980s later. Cultural … [Read more...]

Inaugural Prayer: What I Wish Louie Giglio Had Said in His Statement

I have great respect for Pastor Louie Giglio of Passion City Church.I was pleased to hear Giglio had been invited to pray at President Obama's Inauguration. I was not pleased to hear that he had been pressured into withdrawing from participating due to his having once expressed the implications of his Christian faith concerning homosexual behavior. Although I understand Louie Giglio's concerns about protests potentially distracting both from the Inauguration and his own ministry efforts, I … [Read more...]

Rush Limbaugh: “You know how to stop abortion? Require that each one occur with a gun.”

I didn't say it. Rush did. That's Rush Limbaugh for those on the left coast. You know how to stop abortion? Require that each one occur with a gun. ~ Rush Limbaugh, show archive, Jan. 16, 2013 I know some of you, even some of my friends here on the Evangelical portal here at Patheos won't like me saying it -- but Rush is right on this one. Lost amid all the clamor about gun control efforts to supposedly protect children is the fact that we brutally kill thousands of children every day via … [Read more...]

Will the Hobbit Inspire Your Own Unexpected Journey?

I confess it. I think I may be the only person left who has not seen Peter Jackson's latest rendition of J.R.R. Tolkien's classic tale The Hobbit.Usually I would be among the first at the theater. I made the midnight showing for The Return of the King -- the sound cutting out during the scenes in Mount Doom made it especially memorable. I've watched the DVD versions of The Lord of the Rings countless times with my children.I've read Tolkien's Middle Earth saga multiple times, even reading it … [Read more...]

The following post appears courtesy of my friends at Wallbuilders, founded by David Barton. Wallbuilders is an organization dedicated to presenting America's forgotten history and heroes, with an emphasis on the moral, religious, and constitutional foundation on which America was built. In the wake of the heart-rending massacre at Sandy Hook Elementary School, a cry has arisen for gun control. But such calls are misdirected. The lessons of Scriptures and history are clear that the key is … [Read more...]

5 Inconvenient Truths about School Shootings [VIDEO]

From Reason’s Nick Gillespie and Amanda Winkler: "No one wants to ever again see anything like the senseless slaughter of 26 people – including 20 children - at a school. But as legislators turn toward creating new gun laws, here are five facts they need to know." HT: HotAir … [Read more...]
