Election 2012: We Are All Victims Now, Mr. President

C.S. Lewis said in his famous sermon "The Weight of Glory" that if he were to ask twenty Christian leaders in his day what was the chief virtue, nineteen of them would answer Selflessness. Lewis argued that previous centuries of Christians would have answered instead with Love as the noblest of virtues. He was right in assessing his generation. But the 2012 Presidential election this week leads me to think that most Americans today would answer that question differently yet again. I suspect m … [Read more...]

Election 2012: It’s the End of America As We Know It

"It's a tragedy."  So said Dennis Prager upon first hearing the news that Ohio had gone to Obama, thus deciding the Election 2012 outcome in these United States, November 6, 2012. I would add my own thought as a lifelong Buckeye: It is embarrassing.By reelecting Barack Obama, we have made a choice as a nation that is so egregiously bad that I feel I must distance myself from the decision or risk being associated with the disastrous consequences of it. Even though I'm not sure that such se … [Read more...]

Don’t Expect Much from Third Presidential Debate Unless…

Even though I suggest you watch the third Presidential Debate -- hopefully the sit-down format won't revive the incessant smiling and interrupting of the last such format -- I really don't expect much to emerge that will change anything at this point in the race.Romney knows foreign policy much better than most give him credit for. Having followed him closely for the last six years and read his book No Apology -- which he wrote himself -- I am confident he'll be able to easily convince the … [Read more...]

Romney Was Right to Demand Truth on Libya, Benghazigate

Romney was right to demand the truth from President Obama on Libya and Benghazigate last night in the second Presidential Debate. After Obama's performance about being offended at the very idea that he would play politics with the tragedy,  or the result of a spontaneous protest over a YouTube video. He didn't get clarity. Neither did we.What we got was the moderator making a terrible call by butting in to support Obama's claim that he said the words "act of terror" in the Rose Garden the day … [Read more...]

DNC Chair: Lybia Terror Attack Statements Wrong, Not False

More evidence mounts that the attack on the US embassy in Lybia on Sept. 11, 2012, and assassination of the US ambassador and three other Americans was a deliberate terrorist attack. In response,  Democratic National Committee Chair claimed on CNN with Piers Morgan yesterday that initial Obama administration statements citing a YouTube video as the cause of the violence were wrong, but not intentionally so, which means they were not technically false.Even CNN's Piers Morgan disagreed.Watch … [Read more...]

Why Pastors Dared the IRS to Restrict Religious Freedom

Across the nation this past Sunday, October 8, about 1,600 pastors told the IRS to go to – well, let’s just say they gave notice of non-compliance in defense of religious freedom. In an annual event that began in 2008, pastors preached sermons from the pulpit that offered Biblical critiques of specific candidates’ political positions in violation of the Johnson Amendment of 1954. Read the CNN account here.Videos of many of the sermons were then sent to the IRS as pastors dared them to act. Thei … [Read more...]

Dem Convention Video: Do You Belong to the Government?

By now you've no doubt heard of the video shown on the first day of the Democratic Party convention that claimed "government is the only thing we all belong to."  If you haven't, here is the 17-second clip in question:There's some truth to it. I just shocked some of my left-leaning readers, I know. But we do all share bonds and interests that find expression in the business of the polis or public life of the people in civil government. But it's the use of the word belong to describe our r … [Read more...]
