Every now and then, I like to check in on the Sony Pictures Animation website to see if there’s any new information about The Star, the animated Nativity movie coming out in eleven months. Today I noticed that the website now has more story details.

Here is the current plot synopsis:

In Sony Pictures Animation’s THE STAR, a small but brave donkey named Bo yearns for a life beyond his daily grind at the village mill. One day he finds the courage to break free, and finally goes on the adventure of his dreams. On his journey, he teams up with Ruth, a loveable sheep who has lost her flock and Dave, a dove with lofty aspirations. Along with three wisecracking camels and some eccentric stable animals, Bo and his new friends follow the Star and become accidental heroes in the greatest story ever told – the first Christmas.

That’s a lot more detailed than the single-sentence summary we got six months ago (“a small but brave donkey and his animal friends become the unsung heroes of the greatest story ever told, the first Christmas”), and the fact that one of the three main characters is a sheep leads me to wonder if the filmmakers have retained any of the film’s original plot (a year and a half ago, the film was called The Lamb and was said to be “the inspirational story of a young lamb who will change the world”).

There is no word yet as to which actors will be providing voices for these characters, nor do we have any images of them yet, but I’ll let you know when we do.

The Star is currently due to come to theatres on November 10, 2017.
