Two more movies not screened for critics? August 21, 2007

V.A. Musetto at the New York Post says War, the action movie starring Jet Li and Jason Statham, will not be screened for critics before it opens this Friday. But while that might be true in the States, the film actually screened for critics here in Vancouver last night — perhaps because it was filmed here? (I didn’t see the film myself; I was at the Mr. Bean’s Holiday preview screening.)

Meanwhile, a daytime press screening of Rob Zombie’s remake of John Carpenter’s Halloween (1978) that was scheduled for later this week has since been cancelled. The film opens August 31, so there isn’t much time left for any substitute screenings.

AUG 27 UPDATE: Looks like Variety got to see Halloween, at any rate; their review went up today, four days before it opens.

AUG 28 UPDATE: Lou Lumenick of the New York Post admits that the Variety review of Halloween exists, but says, nevertheless, that “The Weinsteins are not showing this in advance to critics in the U.S., never a good sign.” Then again, the film is apparently being screened this week at the World Film Festival in Montreal.
