Living Witnesses

By Gary Bergel  “But in your hearts set apart Christ as Lord.  Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have.  And do this with gentleness and respect, keeping a clear conscience, so that those who speak maliciously against your good behavior in Christ may be ashamed of their slander…. For Christ died for sins once for all, the righteous for the unrighteous, to bring you to God.”  -- 1 Peter 3:15-18 The Christian faith … [Read more...]

A Better 2013 for God’s World

by Gary Bergel As the Gospel was energetically propagated during the first centuries after Christ's resurrection the world became increasingly aware of the fact it was living "in the time of the Christ." Historians began to reference events as being "before Christ," BC, or as occurring after His nativity, AD, anno Domini, "in the year of Our Lord." (Matthew 4:19, 6:9, 11:29) A prayer common to Christians worldwide is what we now call "The Our Father" or "The Lord's Prayer" -- a model prayer which Jesus of Nazareth, Rabbi Yeshua, taught his disciples as they sat together on the Mount of … [Read more...]

Holy Week- “See, My Servant”

crownofthrons

by Gary Bergel HOLY WEEK - From its own posture of "Hosanna," creation responded to Christ's entry into Jerusalem. Flowers sang their multi-hued praises. Palm fronds and willow branches "clapped their hands." (Isaiah 55:12) Jesus declared that if the disciples and masses had been silent, then the rocks would have cried out. All of creation waits for its release from corruption and death too. It groans and "stands on tiptoe," as J. B. Phillips phrased it in his translation of Romans … [Read more...]

The Mercury Rule \ A Tipping Point

by Gary Bergel "Pollution is essentially a by-product of our vastly increased per-capita consumption, intensified by population growth, urbanization, and changing industrial processes. In the coming years, problems of environmental degradation will rise exponentially." (Ash Council Memo to President Richard Nixon, 1970) The close of 2011 finds the U.S. at an historic ecological tipping point. On Friday, December 16, 2011, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) signed … [Read more...]
