As we’ve watched the election unfold during this painfully long political season, we’ve watched Evangelical Christians swing from one extreme to another. During the primary season, Evangelicals were overwhelmingly vocal about how horrid Donald Trump is as a presidential candidate, at one point sparking the whole #NeverTrump movement. Yet, when he became the nominee, they finally [Read More…]
Every election cycle I find myself shocked at some of the core beliefs and suggested policies that are pushed forward by candidates who claim to be “pro-life.” At this point I probably shouldn’t be, but it is hard for me to let go of the hope that pro-life might actually mean “pro-life” one day. Perhaps [Read More…]
Late last week the United States became the victim of another domestic terrorist attack, this time at a Planned Parenthood clinic in Colorado. From the moment the shooting began, and even now, the internet has been busy discussing and dissecting the situation from multiple angles– and there certainly are multiple angles to this story. Today [Read More…]
If I were a betting man, I’d bet that this week your social newsfeeds has been full of stories regarding the now infamous Planned Parenthood video. While there have been plenty of articles dissecting and critiquing the video on both sides (each with valid points), in the end, it was still disturbing for me. I am [Read More…]
Last night I finally sat down to watch some of the speeches from a conservative political event that recently took place. I’m not sure why I did that to myself, but I did. I’ve always considered myself “pro-life” though I have distanced myself from the modern pro-life movement as I disagree with the goals (abolition instead of actual reduction) and because it’s not actually “pro-life” in any holistic sense; it’s simply pro-gun, pro-war, and pro-birth. Most of those still culturally entrenched in the modern pro-birth movement have hailed [Read More…]
If we want to make any headway on this, we’re going to need to have a new discussion entirely– one that fully humanizes all life, and one that radically values the life of the unborn as well as the life of the post-born. Anything short of this new discussion of what it looks like to value life at all stages, will leave us spinning our wheels like the last generation has done.
I believe this next generation can do better.
I believe they’re ready for a new discussion.
And I believe that together, we can find a third way to approach this. [Read more…]
In the past few days I have been deeply overwhelmed with the response I have received to my previous article “10 things you can’t do and still call yourself pro-life“. I have long wanted to spark a discussion in Christian circles as to what a holistic pro-life ethic should look like, and never imagined that [Read More…]
Being “pro-life” had always been something that was central to my identity. I learned early on, that in order to be a good Christian, one was expected to be “pro” or “in favor of” life- which made complete sense, and still does. As Jesus followers, we follow the one who can lead us to eternal [Read More…]
