The Only Difference between the Late Fred Phelps and the Evangelical Establishment (Not to Mention Christianity Today Magazine) is that Fred had the Guts to Act on His Evangelical Convictions

Fred Phelps is dead. There’s only one interesting thing about Phelps: He was the mirror that respectable evangelicals hated to look into. The only difference between Fred and, say, the editors of Christianity Today magazine, is that Fred was really, really rude, made less money and got arrested more often. But in the essentials of his Calvinist evangelical theology, Fred was a good mainstream evangelical. If you believe in Calvinist theology -- Phelps stated that he held to all of the Five P … [Read more...]

My Heart Broke When I Stopped Painting So I Could Sell My Right Wing Jesus (It’s Fixed Now!)

When I was 17 the first painting I sold was to Mrs. David Rockefeller at my first art show. This was in New York City at the Frisch Gallery. Everything You Always Hated About Christianity Today Magazine (But Were Afraid to Say)

Once in a while you're handed a gift. I don't like Christianity Today magazine, and as the gatekeepers of the evangelical establishment they don't like me. But bashing people over the head when they give you a bad review sounds defensive and petty. So how sweet it is to be able to bash these keepers of the flame of second-rate Christianity over the head for bashing a friend of mine.Kevin Miller's astonishingly good film Hellbound? is about to be released into theaters in New York City, … [Read more...]
