Frank, Thanks again for offering to post this on Patheos.com. In addition to registering my personal protest via the direct letter and return of my diploma to Gordon College, I'm interested in having the letter reach Gordon students, faculty, alumni, and 'friends' of Gordon College. I sent it to a contact on faculty at Gordon just yesterday morning and have received numerous positive and appreciative responses already. I understand that the faculty are under a gag order from the adm … [Read more...]

The Missionary Kid Goes on “Vacation” and Winds Up “Witnessing” to a VERY LOST Italian in a VERY SMALL Bathing Suit!
In 1947 my family moved to Switzerland from the U.S. as missionaries to the Swiss, whom they rarely converted since neither of my parents could speak anything but English. Dad never learned to speak any other language notwithstanding his forty-year sojourn in Europe. So my parents ministered to American tourists and other English-speaking visitors. Then in 1954—after yet more splits with the home mission board—Mom and Dad were “led” (another way of saying they had to figure something out … [Read more...]
Jesus certainly was not a “Bible believer,” as we use that term in the post Billy Graham era of American fundamentalist religiosity that’s used as a trade-marked product to sell religion. Jesus didn’t take the Jewish scriptures at face value. In fundamentalist terms, Jesus was a rule-breaking relativist who wasn’t even “saved,” according to evangelical standards. Evangelicals insist that you have to believe very specific interpretations of the Bible to be saved. Jesus didn’t. He undercut the scri … [Read more...]
I haven’t the foggiest idea what prayer does– I do know that I can’t get through my day without praying…
Why does prayer feel both right and normal to me and crazy, too? The best I can do is offer this analogy. In the movie Close Encounters of the Third Kind, people receive a vision of a mountain to which they’re being called. They don’t know what they’re seeing, let alone why. They don’t believe in callings per se. They just have to go there. In the same way, I just have to pray. And while I know that soon my grandchildren will be asking me tough questions about whether any of this spiritual mumbo- … [Read more...]
Christians’ Constitutional Religious “Right” to Discriminate and Abuse Post-Hobby-Lobby, Wheaton and Gordon
Q: What kind of mental breakdown causes parents to pack a six-year-old girl off to a boarding school 500 to 1000 miles away that’s run by sadists and rapists?A: Evangelical delusional thinking that's what.In the case of tens of thousands of evangelical missionaries the delusional breakdown that led to child abandonment was caused by believing that "all that stands between God burning the lost to death forever and their salvation is-- me!"And this "GOD" means business! After all, HE k … [Read more...]

Gordon College Believes That Religious Liberty is the Right to Persecute Gays or as Westboro Puts it “FAG MARRIAGE DOOMS NATIONS”
“FAG MARRIAGE DOOMS NATIONS,” says one picket sign from the infamous Westboro Baptist Church. Meanwhile Gordon College president D. Michael Lindsay was among 14 religious leaders who sent a letter to the White House demanding a "religious exemption" to a planned order barring federal contractors from discriminating in hiring on the basis of sexual orientation. In other words the Gordon administration believes that religious liberty is the right to persecute gays.Gordon found a sl … [Read more...]
Wheaton College Becomes a Tool of the Far Right Obama-Haters and Seals the Fate of the Evangelical Community’s Reputation for a Generation
I had my first deep wet kiss with a woman at the evangelical establishment bastion of Wheaton College. Dad was lecturing there. I was fifteen. She was a twenty-something house mother in a dorm. Memorable!!! Now Wheaton will also be remembered as the place the far right Obama-haters used to try and discredit the president with a lie. This time the lie is that Obama is "anti-religious" because he thinks women should have the right to contraception. Wheaton will be remembered as the people who br … [Read more...]
