Inspiration struck while I was running/walking around Deck 4.

As I’ve mentioned, the ship has a pretty good workout area, but today was so uncharacteristically warm that the kids have been able to swim for the past two days. What a blessing! One of the reasons I had my doubts about the Trans-Atlantic cruise to Copenhagen was the lack of warm sea days. To my surprise, the hearted pool has been warm enough to enjoy since we arrived.

That also meant that yesterday I went to the running track. Around the boat three times is one mile. I walked and ran a total of 6 miles while listening to one of Camille’s favorite novels, The Book Thief. While I was going around and around the boat, I had an idea for a novel.

No, I don’t normally write novels, though I’ve written a total of three so far that you haven’t seen. I’m not sure any of them are any good. But today, I had an idea for a story and rushed down to tell David and the kids. I think this one has legs…

And so, I downloaded onto my iPhone Sol Stein’s “Book on Writing,” and have delved into the idea of this new book. I’m telling you this so perhaps I’ll actually take the time to write this one for me, instead of taking on new book projects for others. I love love love collaborating with celebrities, so it’s all-too-easy to take the next book project while my other book ideas sit on the shelf. I honestly think this cruise inspired book idea might be worth pursuing. Maybe I’ll be able to make enough money off the book to actually pay for the cruise!

So, today was the second day-at-sea in a row.

This morning, I got up with Naomi to have a pleasant brunch together in Lumiere’s restaurant together. (I had told her I wanted special time with just Naomi, and we are getting it!) We brought books and read them at the table while we waited for our food. Also, near the restaurant, we noticed there was princess photo opportunities… Naomi took a photo with Cinderella, then whispered to me, “I didn’t know Cinderella was real…!”

In the evening, David, Camille, Austin, and I gathered on the couch and watched “Goodfellas.” Yes, this is the first time I’d ever seen that movie. Yes, this does reflect poorly on my character. Yes, it was amazing.

If we can keep the kids from using some of the colorful language they used in the movie, we’ll be doing well. After the movie (which we downloaded before we got on the cruise ship onto David’s iPad), we went upstairs and ate midnight pizza. The ship was sailing so fast that the wind whipped around on the top deck and a chill settled on us. Above the water was a layer of thick fog, which meant the ship blew its horn every five minutes or so. While we were on the top deck, this caused us to nearly jump out of our skin – it was so loud and unexpected.

However, as we settled down to sleep, the ship’s fog horn – which they began to blow every five minutes or so due to the increased fog – was a soothing way to drift asleep… especially since we were six decks down from the top.

Here’s where we are…
