Jennifer Garner takes her kids to church every week – Read the surprising reason she recommitted to Christianity February 26, 2016

Jennifer Garner has begun taking her children back to church every Sunday.  Why the sudden devotion? Her latest movie role caused the change.

Garner grew up going to church every Sunday with her family, but says she stopped going when she moved to Hollywood. (The culture there, she says, doesn’t encourage faith.) But when she was cast as Christy Beam in Miracles From Heaven, she began to rethink her faith.

The movie tells the true story of Christy’s daughter, Anna, who is miraculously healed from a terminal illness when she falls from a tree. During the time she is unconscious, Anna says she met Jesus.

Christianity Today explains how the story impacted Garner:

In the film, Anna’s recovery helps to restore her family and Garner has revealed that her role in the film led to her incorporating church into her family’s schedule again.

“There was something about doing this film and talking to my kids about it and realising that they were looking for the structure of church every Sunday,” Garner told Good Morning Texas host Jane McGarry. “So it was a great gift of this film that it took us back to finding our local Methodist church and going every Sunday. It’s really sweet,” she added.

Garner has also said that she feels the film chose her in a way and that she was inspired by the faith of the Beam family and the strength of Christy Beam in particular.

I love seeing a Hollywood “A-lister” so grounded in her family – and now her faith – that she is prioritizing regular church for her children. May Miracles From Heaven will lead others to look towards the only One who can truly satisfy and sustain us.
