"When, among atheisits, did it become “disrespectful” and “mean-spirited” to positively — without direct insult or threat — tell someone what you believe, why you believe it and that you believe they will be a better person if they come to see your point? "

I don't think it is disrespectful, as long I as I can't get my 2 cents in without being called disrespectful. The problem with this e-mail is that she comes across as a looney. Why would you say this in a consession e-mail (who ever heard of a consession e-mail anyway)?

Senator Chaudhary is not as squeaky clean in this as people seem to think. In fact, he is largely responsible for manufacturing the situation.

See http://bootson.blogspot.com for a different perspective.

Evangelism is inappropriate in this setting - Emily Post would agree, I think. And this starts out as the kind of evangelism that is really a dig at the other person:

I see your deficits–not all of them, and your potential–but not all of it. Only your Creator knows the real potential He’s put in you. Get to know Him and know yourself…you’ll be more interesting even to you!

Then there's this part:

There’s more….I love belonging to the family of God. Jesus is the way, the truth and offers His life to you and each human being. Pay attention…this is very important, Satveer. Have you noticed Jesus for yourself…at some moment in time, yet???

She's lecturing him ("Pay attention, this is very important") and seems condescending (Have[n't] you noticed Jesus....yet??? - implicit in this is, "you dummy!!!").

This is hard-core Christianese, which those of us who aren't Christians need an interpreter to make sense of. Either that, or it's gobbledy-gook.

Death came upon all and was defeated by the superiority of Jesus’ life and His tomb is empty. God in Christ is reconciling the world back to Himself, with offered forgiveness–this is one choice we get to make nose to nose with the living God–fear Him and you need fear no other. Become His family and know the love of God that passes knowledge.

And this one just irritates the editor/grader in me:

good reading while waiting for fishes to bite

(The plural of "fish" is usually "fish" - "fishes" isn't incorrect, but sounds odd unless it's in a poem or song in which the meter requires an extra syllable, as in "Joy to the fishes in the deep blue sea, Joy to you and me".)

Yep. That email was about as clueless, inappropriate and pretentious as it gets.

Why not a simple, "I'll keep working for my views in our community, but I just wanted to congratulate you on capturing the voters' attention.

Sincerely

...

Clueless and loving it, ain't she..

Of course it's a mean email -- and meanspirited. I know you're saying it doesn't curse or call him names overtly, but you don't have to have much reading skill to see it as a meanspirited harangue -- and that's a mean email regardless of what words it does or doesn't contain.
