Military Atheists Join Secular Coalition

The Military Association of Atheists and Freethinkers (MAAF) has recently joined the Secular Coalition for America.

As the SCA’s press release notes:

In addition to community services, MAAF takes action to educate both the military and civilian community about atheism in the armed forces and the issues faced by atheist service members. MAAF identifies, examines, and responds to military practices that unconstitutionally promote religion over nonreligion or discriminate against the nonreligious as well as religious minorities. MAAF supports the First Amendment right of freedom of conscience for all service members.

While the seven other coalition members bring with them a lot of history and supporters, the mere mention of MAAF may be one of the most effective ways to get the SCA’s message across to members of both parties. It’s certainly a show stopper: “There is a group for atheists in the military?!”

And hopefully, the SCA and MAAF will lead the way in ensuring that no one ever again says “There are no atheists in foxholes.”

A joint statement from MAAF and SCA can be read here.

As long as Judges are elected, Atheist will not be able to make headway in what they stand for.

If a Judge makes a decision in favour of Atheist, he is afraid not being elected next time around.
