FriendlyChristian.com

Bill has just started FriendlyChristian.com. (I’m honored to be the inspiration!)

What is a “Friendly Christian“?

A Friendly Christian…

1. First and foremost, is a Christian
2. Does not expect people to believe what he/she believes
3. Does not go around telling people that they’re going to hell
4. Is real about his/her faith. Admits to doubting. Admits to questioning. Admits to struggling
5. Does not judge people for believing what he/she believes
6. Does not look down on people that don’t call themselves Christians

In many of my encounters with Christians, I’ve found an overwhelming number to be “Unfriendly Christians.” Quite frankly, they came across as arrogant jerks. It’s sad. Rather than loving and serving them, we tend to judge, point fingers, and tell people that they’re wrong. I’ve even heard one person say that we view people that don’t share the same beliefs as us to be “projects rather than people.” My goal is to break the mold of a cranky Christian. I refuse to beat people over the head with my bible. People are PEOPLE, not projects!

I’m looking forward to reading the posts here. And you should be, too, which is why you’re going to subscribe to the RSS feed.

Thanks for the love. And thanks again for the inspiration.

Shall we add that the friendly Christian doesn’t try to use the power of the state to do anything to anyone else?

That’s what I would call friendly. Someone who totally renounces the manipulation of the political mechanism as an aid in achieving their agenda.

    4. Is real about his/her faith. Admits to doubting. Admits to questioning. Admits to struggling [with the tortured logic]

    Friendly Christians don’t lie.

Rather than loving and serving them, we tend to judge, point fingers, and tell people that they’re wrong.

    Very friendly Christians.

I refuse to beat people over the head with my bible.

Are you going to serve me or not? My evil atheist deeds might need henchmen wielding blunt weapons known as “The Book”.

    People are PEOPLE, not projects!

People are people. You’re so right, I’ve learned so much.

You know you don’t have to have an
attitude like that about it. at least he’s trying. you get mad when they get in your face, that I can understand, now you’re going to get mad when they’re friendly? it seems like you hate him just for being a christian, whether he’s done anything to you or not. and that’s pretty sad. how is it any better than people hating you just for being an atheist? like it or not, there will always be religous people. hopefully more of them will be friendlier and willing to work with those that aren’t and will stop discriminating and trying to get into government. atheists aren’t perfect either-no one is. I for one think the website is a great idea, and I hope there are more like them. It’s great that he got his inspiration from Hemant-it means Hemant is getting through to at least some people.

I love it, Bill! Good on ya, and I hope you have much success with the blog.

One question: Did you already have the FriendlyChristian.com domain name, or was it actually not taken before?!

  • http://www.christiansontheclock.org Matt L

I’m with Hemant – should be an interesting read. Initial posts are not of the “garden-variety” Christian blog posts.

Don’t sweat it Bill – AJ’s comments are typically irrationally hostile as seen throughout the blog & diverge from the typically thought-provoking questions asked by others.

‘ I refuse to beat people over the head with my bible.’

    Good, because that’s my job!

I’ve had Christians simply refuse to open their Bible after 10 minutes of talking to me…

    Hey Karen…

It’s a few months later…sorry I never replied to this comment (I didn’t see it!).

The domain name was actually available…hard to believe, eh? 6 bucks, baby! haha
