More Ray Comfort Dishonesty

Recently, PZ Myers was going to appear on a radio show to debate Ray “Bananaman” Comfort.

The producers decided that may be unproductive, so they decided to change the format. Comfort would be interviewed one day, PZ the next.

PZ kept us in the loop as all this was happening. He even did a play by play of Comfort’s interview.

You would think Comfort would be ready to pick apart everything PZ said.

But that rebuttal doesn’t exist.

One reader (Rev. BigDumbChimp) asked him about this:

Ray, I’m sensing you were either too lazy or too scared to listen to Dr. Myers’ turn on the radio.

If not why haven’t you responded?

Comfort offered this response:

REv…you mean the guy who was a no-show at the last moment. He was supposed to debate me. I wonder why he didn’t show up? Do I smell chicken? Afraid of banana man :).

I am too busy (working on the thrid seaon of our TV program).

So he blames PZ for a producer’s decision and then ignores the truth when it’s presented to him.

Is anyone surprised?

DisComforting Ignorance offers this timeline of how everything went down:

August 1: PZ announces that he and Ray will be debating intelligent design on WDAY.
August 4: PZ announces that the format of the show has been changed.
August 4: The producer comments on the change of format.
August 5: PZ posts a running commentary of Ray’s appearance.
August 5: Ray appears on WDAY.
August 6: PZ appears on WDAY.
August 7: Ray claims PZ was a “chicken” and a “no-show at the last moment.”

DisComforting Ignorance also contacted the producers of the show to double-check whether they informed Ray of the switch.

We await the response…

***Update***: Comfort finally responded to PZ’s interview… and shows even more ignorance than usual.

Gotta love the “The Atheist Starter Kit” off to the side on his webpage…

How can this guy manage to be so hilariously wrong with such consistency? It’s like a superpower…

  • Pekka Pekuri

Ray’s “The Atheist Starter Kit” is so creotarded that I :headdesk:’d.

I don’t know – don’t you think we’re giving Ray “Banana Fetish” Comfort a little too much press?

    “Ron in Houston said,
I don’t know – don’t you think we’re giving Ray “Banana Fetish” Comfort a little too much press?”

What puzzles me is – why do I hear about Ray Comfort and his ah, less than convincing arguments so often?
Where are the brilliant biblical scholars with powerful, logical arguments to sway the most hard-headed of us atheists?
It was interesting to see a couple of comments on Mr. Comfort’s “Atheist Central” blog from Christians who accept evolution and see no conflict with the Bible. The trouble is, if Genesis is “just an allegory” then which parts of the bible should be taken literally?
It boggles my mind that so many folks use 2000 year-old superstitions and prejudices to help form their worldview. It’s like travelling by horse and buggy when there’s a porsche available.

Speaking as a former born-again Christian, and current atheist, I can honestly say that I hope, with all sincerity that Comfort has a long career. There is simply no better argument against creationism and Biblical truth than his ignorant lies.

I used to get upset when he misrepresented the truth, outright lied, or just showed amazingly willful ignorance. Now I realize how damning it is to his cause. I hope he stays in the public eye for years to come.

Frankly, I stopped wondering how he can be so off-base all the time. I’ve even stopped wondering how he can be so oblivious to the inanity of his arguments.

Those powerful, logical arguments don’t exist. I apologize if you already knew that, I’m just checking.

    Steven

Well, I happen to believe that phallus worship proves Greek mythology. Maybe Ray’s preoccupation with bananas proves Christianity?

Thanks for the link to the Discomforting Ignorance Blog!

Personally I am going to steer of the blogs of the likes of Ray Comfort, because he uses it to write more crap and fool more people in that ministry of his. I think he is a nasty dishonest person

  • BZ

I think we really are giving him too much attention. It is our constant reaction that helps some Christians think that Ray is really getting to us, or that he has something. If we ignored him he’d be less successful.

I don’t know why people bother with people like Comfort. He’s going to lie and he’s going to twist the truth to suit him. And the people that adore him will still adore him. Nothing has changed.

There’s nothing to be gained but blog hits.

How dare he mock Bananaman. I loved that show.
