Breaking News: Barack Obama Is Not the Antichrist

I know you’ve been wondering for a while now: Is Barack Obama the antichrist?!

We finally get word that he, in fact, is not.

From the authors of the Left Behind series, Tim LaHaye and Jerry B. Jenkins:

“I’ve gotten a lot of questions the last few weeks asking if Obama is the antichrist,” says novelist Jenkins. “I tell everyone that I don’t think the antichrist will come out of politics, especially American politics.”

“I can see by the language he uses why people think he could be the antichrist,” adds LaHaye, “but from my reading of scripture, he doesn’t meet the criteria. There is no indication in the Bible that the antichrist will be an American.”

Good to know that’s cleared up.

My next question to Tim LaHaye: Is Barack Obama the Christ? Hen? Hen?

  • Miko

Just out of curiosity, what would indicate that the antichrist “will be an American?” Seeing as the authors of the Bible had no idea what an American was and all…

My next two questions to Tim LaHaye are:

    What are you smoking?

    and

What sound did your last rational brain-cell make when it died?

It’s interesting to see that both of them can write a coherent sentence. Now only if either of them had done that at any point in any of their novels.

It is very telling that folks are asking a writer of FICTION about whether a real person is the antichrist.

This is more than anything a pointer that some of these fundamentalists are not in their right mind.

Do you think these guys think the Anti-Christ has to be a non-American because they (might) hold a view that anything America does is automatically right?

Although, that would be at odds with the kind of religious conservatism that believes that God is punishing the U.S. for increased secularism.

I assume such an inconsistency doesn’t bother those who take Revelations seriously.

Obama is not the Antichrist. We have it on good authority, by those that know about such things, so we should all feel better now.

What do we really have? We’ve got assurances by a couple of kooks that a crazy idea is refuted by a whole system of other crazy ideas of which they are self-proclaimed authorities.

In other news, the director of Godzilla released a statement that John McCain is “probably not” a giant mutant lizard.

That’s what I was thinking, too. What, exactly, are LaHaye and Jenkins experts on, apart from their own bloody awful (from all reports; haven’t read ‘em myself) works of fiction? Next thing they’ll be calling Dan Brown to ask him if the current pope is part of the global conspiracy or not.

I’m not sure that it’s fair to call them “a couple of kooks”, though. Parting fools from their money has a long and ignoble history in American culture. Anyone who manages it successfully is usually referred to as a “shrewd businessman”, not a “kook”.

Just yesterday, a friend of mine told me in all seriousness that she was certain Obama is the antichrist. Now, I know she is being brainwashed somewhere, because she is not the type to just make something like this up, but I seriously dont know how to tlak to her in light of this recent development.

Pseudo, I’ve known more than one rich kook.

Wealth and whackiness do sleep together.

I am so relieved! I believe everything I see on Fox “News,” so I was really worried about this. I’d hate to think we are wasting valuable resources on Obama that should be spent on trying to identify the real anti-Christ.

I don’t want to pimp my blog too blatantly, but I addressed this issue in June in my post “The Anti-Christ is white!” As we all know, half doesn’t count. (grin)

Oh, great, LaHaye announces he isn’t the Antichrist; way to go kook ball.

I’m surprised LaHaye didn’t try to make some crazy remark about Obama being a Muslim or something along those lines of stupidity.

I think it has something to do with the idea that the EU is the risen Roman Empire, and the a-c will come out of it, or some such thing.

I agree with Darryl. They can be rich and crazy. God bless America.

  • Karen Brown

Naw. You can’t be rich and crazy.

    When you’re rich, you’re ‘eccentric’.
