Sarah Palin Wins Rubber Dodo Award

I’ll admit it.

I completely misread that headline the first time I saw it.

But the Center for Biological Diversity has awarded Sarah Palin their Second Annual Rubber Dodo Award:

Here’s the money quotation from the director:

“Governor Palin has waged a deceptive, dangerous, and costly battle against the polar bear,” said Kieran Suckling, executive director of the Center for Biological Diversity. “Her position on global warming is so extreme, she makes Dick Cheney look like an Al Gore devotee.”

Congratulations to Palin.

I think.

Funny there’s no mention of her ‘teach the controversy’ position.

    Excellent.

I was just going to say…shouldn’t her “fair” views on evolution be included in that award as well?

Why would god make the dodo…and then kill it off?

  • Michael

    I misread also. Now I’m disappointed. :(

Does it come with free batteries. Oh, dodo!

  • David D.G.

Hemant, I misread that line at first, too. I did wonder, for a moment, how a dodo could be a robber, much less why a larcenous extinct bird would be awarded to anybody.

    Uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

I don’t think that’s how Hemant misread it. Wrong word. ;)

  • Dave Haaz-Baroque

Actually, that trophy’s kinda cool. Is it wrong that I almost want one?

  • Larry Huffman

I misread it too…at first I thought it said “Tina Fey wins…”. THis makes much more sense. ;-)

Where can I get me one of those Dodo
    trophies?
Maybe Sara will go the way of the Dodo.

  • Katie

It’s been a while since I’ve posted — wow, I love the new layout! Very nice! *applause*

Also: I thought I was the only one thinking about, what was the clever term Jay Naylor used? Ah, yes: marital aids. *grin*

    But I digress!

Fantastic. I thought that was a real award until I got the second line on the plaque, at which point I realized it’s something like the Darwin awards, only far less humorous because, well, Sarah Palin is unfortunately still alive.

That dodo is pretty cute. Let’s hope the polar bear doesn’t go the way of the dodo thanks to the idiocy of these climate change deniers.

Would she have won if she hadn’t been a candidate for VP?

    @mikespeir:

Given the astoundingly improbable concatenation of circumstances that allowed Plain to even be considered a candidate for vice president, it’s surprising she hasn’t won the Powerball.

Seriously, all the inauspicious planets must have lined up at once and danced Swan Lake to allow a hickstremist like her a crack at the Oval Office.

I get very angry when I learn about the abuse of animals or careless disregard to their survival. When I read in-depth material about SP’s aerial wolf hunting initiative, my blood pressure went through the roof.

Yes, by opposing the further protection of polar bears and beluga whales she’s putting human interests so far above the environment that she makes Bush look like a hippie. But by allowing and rewarding hunters for chasing down wolf packs with planes until they’re literally too exhausted to run anymore and then shooting them point blank – all so the moose and caribou populations can rise for sportsmen – she truly convinced me that she’s a monster.

Apparently stopping a fertilized egg from attaching successfully to the uterine wall is a sacred duty, but it’s perfectly acceptable to torture non-threatening animals for a prolonged period and then collect money for killing them.

I don’t think that animals deserve the same rights as people, but they cannot protect themselves from us at this point, and I wish that people who obviously don’t care about their survival or welfare didn’t have a say in policy that affects them. The whole thing makes me feel ill.
