You need only fail to kowtow *to* Christmas and Christianity to be considered part of the "War on Christmas". Hence the constant badgering of anybody who dare say "Happy Holidays" rather than "Merry Christmas" (how dare they acknowledge there's more than one holiday this time of year and not fawn over just <em>ours</em>???). But when you go so far as to speak in favor of atheism you may as well paint a target on yourself. Really you don’t have to speak in favor of atheism. You need only fail to kowtow *to* Christmas and Christianity to be considered part of the “War on Christmas”. I don't even think atheists really had anything to do with it! This type of Christian acts like nobody else celebrates any holiday <em>but</em> Christmas during this time of the year. You try and explain that to this type of fundie and you get the "This is a Christian nation" bit, and no amount of 1st Amendment or Treaty of Tripoli discussion will ever convince them otherwise. As long as Billo and his cerebrally challenged fans get to frame this completely bogus debate, then anything secular said between Thanksgiving and New Years Day will be condemned as part of the “War on Christmas.” The media thrives on controversy. People have an annoying tendency to be friendly and to get along around Christmas, so the media starts to have withdrawal symptoms from not enough conflict. Even if seculars fell silent, William the Concocter and his ilk would contrive grievous assaults on their Holiest of Days out of the air, just to feed their lust for self-righteous, chest-thumping, finger-wagging, oh-bewaring, mark-my-wording, and ratings-boosting indignation.
