A Very Belated Book Review

I realize I’m nearly two years behind the rest of the world, but I just finished reading Ishmael Beah‘s A Long Way Gone. It took me all of a day.

It’s remarkable and scary and heartbreaking and uplifting and horrifying and wonderful.

If you haven’t read it, you should.

The description and whatnot can be found here.

Better yet, just check out this interview the author did with Jon Stewart a while back.

Two books done from my reading list so far during the holiday break.

Ishmael Beah came to speak at my school last year. I’ve done some community service work for Sierra Leone (I helped to raise money to build a school), and got the opportunity to eat dinner with him. He was an amazing person. He has gone through all this hardship in his life, yet he still has a great outlook on life.

I’ve read the book a few times, and loved it every time. There was one point when I broke down crying. It is impossible for me to even imagine all that he went through.
