Oh I see , You all want rights only for want you want – Not for everyone- Like my right have a Christian pastor give a prayer for a person who I didn’t choose but he is still my President also. Ya know , if you had listened during the campaign, you would have know that Obama does not support gay marriage either.

I mean, if he were saying, “Gays aren’t people and we ought to pull out the hoses and sic the dogs on them…” well, that’d be pretty bigoted. But, he’s not.

Let’s look at this bit by bit: Leviticus specifically calls male gay sex an abomination, and proscribes death. Trouble is it also says the same about shellfish, and certain foods to define kosher, vs. non-kosher food for Jews. Many Christians single out (pick and choose) Also kids talking back to parents and so on. Sure yes Warren likely gets his bigotry from his brand of Christianity.

Now some Christians are more forgiving, UCC, UU, and others. Taken to the extreme, Jesus forgives everyone of everything except one. — (see the Blasphemy Challenge, made poopular w/ the release of ‘The God who wasn’t there’)

I’m not certain if Jesus even mentioned homosexuality, Gay or Lesbian. As to the ‘definition of marriage’ it has clearly changed over the centuries, for example women are no longer property. If one were to list all the civil rights & responsibilities associated with legal marriage, what rights would Warren and Obama want to cross off in the case of Gay’s and Lesbians? I’m not clear what ‘Civil Unions’ means if not marriage. To me inventing the term invents a subclass of people.

Since Marriage is often performed by theistic ministers, should we apply marriage only to theistic religious people, or give them a ‘civil’ marriage?

Actually, if you remove the prayer you turn it into a secular ceremony, independent of religion, as the law says it should be.

He voted against the legalization of homosexual marriage in California. Actually, this was the 2nd time he had to do, and this time make it constitutional, because 4 liberal judges believed that millions of Californians who voted on it the first time couldn’t possibly have understood what they were voting on. Apparently, those judges were wrong and now its constitutional. Obviously, freedom of speech goes both ways. How can you ever expect someone to tolerate you if you will not tolerate them? All I have heard is how horrible of a person Rick Warren is and how he ought not be the person who is speaking at Barack Obama’s inauguration. But, if this were Billy Graham, most people here would be silent, even though his views are exactly the same on the matter. The fact is, Warren doesn’t represent the homosexual outlook or agenda. But, apparently, neither do most people in California…or the nation.

My point is this (and feel free to go to town). Warren is a Christian minister. He believes the Bible. The Bible calls homosexuality a sin. If it didn’t, we wouldn’t be having this problem. So, the issue is not with Warren. But, Scripture. By having Warren invoke the prayer, Obama will alienate not only homosexuals, but Muslims, Hindus, Bahai, and so on and so forth. No matter WHO is placed there, someone will alienate someone. Remove the prayer, you alienate people of faith. That is the wonder of this nation. There are tons of different people with different values and different beliefs. Not everyone is going to be happy. Obama is EVERYONE’S president, not just gays and atheists.

I like the idea but people are forgetting that Lowery is also opposed to Gay Marriage, and wants to keep them at the “Separate but equal” Civil Union status.

Be aware that in 1961 one priest spoke for 12 minutes and the total amount of prayer was apparently 28 minutes (there were three ministers and a rabbi for Kennedy’s ceremony).
