Christian Conservatives Furious Over Homosexual Dance

Conservative Christians are freaking out because an Illinois high school held a dance for GLBT students and their straight allies.

Who is to blame for this approval of all-but-certain debauchery?

English teachers.

And now we have the first dance for students who self-identify as homosexual, which was approved by English teacher, Bill Fritz.

It shouldn’t surprise anyone that this kind of corrupt event would be supported by an English teacher. Although nowadays moral mischief emerges from all quarters in public schools, taxpayers should be especially vigilant about the activities of English and theater teachers, many of whom arrogantly believe that the community members who pay teacher salaries have no right to oversee how their taxes are spent and believe that a central task of theirs is the moral reformation of other people’s children.

Those damn English teachers, always spreading the gay…

One more bit from the Illinois Family Institute’s press release:

For a school to permit a dance specifically intended for homosexual students means that the administration has likely taken a position on the nature of homosexuality (i.e. that homosexuality is completely biologically determined like eye color or skin color) and most certainly has taken a position on the morality of homosexuality. They had to have concluded that homosexual conduct is moral conduct, or they would not have approved the use of school property for such a dance.

The fatuous adults who are charged with guiding students into truth are complicit in their destruction; and each and every Stevenson [High School] taxpayer who says nothing while their taxes subsidize this travesty are complicit in the destruction of the lives of the students who came to this dance to act upon disordered impulses.

The IFI makes it sound like the school was condoning sodomy on the dance floor. Meanwhile, they say nothing about “straight” dances like Homecoming and Prom at which (I assure you) far worse things go on.

For what it’s worth, the dance was actually sponsored by the Gay Straight Alliance group at the school — and all students were invited, gay or straight, non-religious or Christian.

The press release from the IFI reminds us why these types of dances are so important for gay students. They have to deal with ignorant shit like this on a regular basis. It’s nice to go out and have a good time without feeling like you’re the odd person out and the target of so much hatred.

English and theater teachers? They are the obvious, not surprising perpetrators of corruption and immorality? Not science teachers, or history teachers, or God save us all, MATH teachers?? This is sooooo silly it sounds like a Poe.

How many real people are actually members of the Idiots Family Institute, anyway?

  • PrimeNumbers

Pity they don’t turn the other cheek and let other people just be. But oh they love to discriminate, don’t they. Are their lives just so miserable that the only fun they get is discriminating against others?

The school obviously decided that any student group can have a dance, as to decide otherwise is discriminatory. It’s neither approval or disapproval of the group, but strict neutrality.

Misread the above word as “fabulous”. Admittedly, it makes much more sense that way.

Blasphemy! Next thing you know these “the gays” will want to be playing football and learning evolution! Won’t somebody please think of the children?

  • postsimian

    rock on, school!

  • cassiek

*sigh* Everyone knows “them homos” read books and love theater. I wonder how many gay people these morons have actually met and spoken to in their lives and were never aware that the intelligent, decent person with whom they were conversing was a target for their hatred. Incidentally, my daughter’s date for her Junior Prom was her gay best friend (and later room mate). They had a blast.

    …The stupid, it hurts.

Good to know this can actually happen. At my high school, my lesbian friend and her girlfriend weren’t allowed to buy couples tickets for prom because they didn’t conform to what they school defined as a legitimate couple. Her mom was about to sue their pants off, but then they decided to screw homophobic prom and go to a Star Wars convention instead.

    1. NATURALISTIC FALLACY. Look it up. I believe that homosexuality is amoral. Not immoral, but amoral, just like atheism is amoral. There are moral atheists and homosexuals, but I wouldn’t dare say that everyone of them is a moral person. Just like I don’t think being Christian automatically makes someone moral. It’s not about what people believe, it’s how they behave with respect to other people that makes or breaks morality.
    2. I suppose that means they have taken moral position on eye color too… hah.
    3. For the record, my mother is biologically determined to have been my mother. This says nothing about morality.
    4. Need I go on?

    Oh the irony!

Ugh. Any group that has heritage, family or tradition in its name is sure to be anti-gay and likely to be misogynistic. They have scores of propaganda, distortions and outright lies, but wouldn’t know the truth if it bit them on the behind. And they know how to play the persecution card like nobody’s business.

  • Awesomesauce

On the bright side, there aren’t likely to be many dumpster babies at a dance like this.

We just had a “Diversity Dialog” last week at the small private college where I work in east TN. It was well attended, and we had many positive remarks. The students just didn’t think it was long enough! So we’re going to have a follow up, a smaller one, in April. The smart kids, the leaders on campus get it. It’s the ones who have been indoctrinated since birth, and don’t ever question anything who don’t get it. But if the larger community in this area gets wind of what we’re doing, it won’t be pretty. All those bible thumping letters to the editor of our conservative newspaper will start. Then I’ll have to start rebutting, but they won’t listen…it’s in the bible…blah, blah, blah. I get so tired…..

But awesomesauce, that would deprive us of genius like this:

Worse than sodomy? (Clutches pearls in shock and horror)

No, really. Tell me what you mean by that!

For God sakes, get the English our of our schools! We’re AMERICAN, not European.

  • lunarmagpie

ENGLISH teachers? back when i was in high school, it was the P.E. teachers that spread the gay.

those were the good old days.

Worse than sodomy? (Clutches pearls in shock and horror)
No, really. Tell me what you mean by that!

For teen-agers, any form of sex that can result in pregnancy is worse than sodomy.

  • Turrboenvy

You’d think these people would appreciate the school keeping the icky gays away from their precious, impressionable, closeted kids!

If the school’s name is associated with the event than the school must be seen, as in some sense, endorsing the event. Regardless of your views on homosexuality in the public sphere, the government should not be taking sides and taxpayer funds should not be going into such efforts. For one things this will only encourage Fundamentalists to try to push for government funding for their agendas. Just as we do not want schools supporting bible readings or stealth Christian abstinence proms we should not want schools supporting gay dances.

  • http://www.otmatheist.com hoverFrog

Benzion N. Chinn, if that is so then should they support any kind of dance or social event? A dance for GLBT and their friends is not promoting a religious or anti-religious view. It really has nothing to do with religion at all except that many religious people will set themselves up in opposition to the idea of equality for homosexuals. They don’t have to do this.

As for encouraging fundies to push their own agendas I really don’t see that they need more encouragement but they are entitled to push for whatever changes they see fit. That is what freedom of speech allows.

At the moment the American public is in middle of a debate as to how to deal with the rise, over the past few decades, of an organized and open gay community. In light of this new reality how does one go about maintaining a fair and just society? There are a lot of complicated issues that people of good will are going to take different positions on. Is it an injustice to not have gay marriage? Keep in mind that I, a heterosexual man, cannot marry another man at the moment either so technically speaking everyone is getting the same thing at the moment. Am I oppressing homosexuals when I use words like husband, wife, father or mother? On the flip side am I being oppressed when homosexuals try to stop me from using these words? As a believer in the free society, I support having this debate and I support having the government out of the way. The moment a government funded school attaches its name to a GLBT event then the government is taking a specific side. On the flip side schools should not be stopping gay students from dancing with their partners at formal dances. That would also be taking a stance.
