Ted Haggard and Wife to Appear on Divorce Court

Ted Haggard and his wife will appear on the courtroom TV show Divorce Court on April 1st (not a joke, though).

They won’t be getting a divorce or anything like that. Rather, they will tell the presiding judge Lynn Toler and the viewing audience that divorce isn’t the answer.

Well, if you can survive an extramarital affair with a gay male escort, I’m sure you can survive damn near anything…

The Haggards say their marriage and Christian faith are stronger than ever, and they want people to know that divorce is not the answer.

“This is part of Ted’s journey,” Gayle Haggard said. “It’s made him a better man. I see what has happened as a divine rescue.”

She said she was helped through her darkest hours by the biblical principles of forgiveness, compassion and steadfastness, along with her husband’s genuine repentance.

The couple will be paid an undisclosed amount for the interview…

This is totally what Jesus would have done.

“Divine rescue”….. *sigh* I guess willful ignorance really IS bliss….

  • Wow…talk about denial.

  • It’s their business if they want to stay married but that does not mean that “divorce is not the answer” for anyone and everyone else. That’s just plain stupid.

I wonder what she has to say as she waits for STD test results…

divorce can be a beautiful thing, just ask any battered woman.

Let’s see if they’re still together in five years.

the concepts of steadfastness, forgiveness, repentance, and compassion do help through the rough patches.

in my experience though, its good to be willing to walk away and rebuild your life if that is what it takes. its a very empowering thing to know (and to be able to communicate) that, although you want a marriage to work, you don’t NEED it to work to have a happy life.

showing up on divorce court to say divorce isn’t the answer is so presumptuous. I believe I have grown intolerant of presumption, and I’m okay with that.

It’s entirely possible that they will still be married in five years. Haggard is not just an ex-minister, but he and his wife are accustomed to the political and religious ramifications of everything they do. If his wife hasn’t left him already, they won’t separate. They’ll stay together for appearances if nothing else.

    What would Jesus do?

    Mike Jones.

    Hur hur….

  • Aww, you got me all excited with that headline.

  • I just wonder if Ted was actually “cured” of his homo-sexual-ity.

Hope that this couple can pull this off

Unless you have been through this or something like it you can’t understand. My husband confessed to me that he has been having an affair for three years (with women). We have been married for five and have three small children. I made the choice to stay with him. We are going through counsling. He has a problem. He didn’t do it to be vicious. I believe I made the right choice for myself and my children. I love him and our family. We are willing to try. So you can’t really judge someone’s choices. You don’t know what you would do until it happen’s to you. I always said he would be out the door if he ever cheated but he isn’t.
