PZ also linked it, so we had help. But well done.

What does this really acheive other than allowing us to feel smug about wrecking statistics?

  • Tony Boling

Based upon the swing the poll took, I doubt many people in total voted. I’d be surprised if more than 1000 total people participated in the poll.

  • Polly

This is really disheartening. Having the local shaman chant a blessing before getting to business? What century is this?

Are they going to annoint the podium in holy oil, too?

    UGH!

    Methinks this poll was pharyngulated

Great news, but it kind of reminds me of the scene in Monty Python’s Holy Grail where the alleged witch says “well, at least it was a fair trial” (after being found guilty by virtue of the fact that she was heavier than a duck). I don’t think we can assume this to be an accurate representation of the feelings of representative americans.

“Statistics”??? It’s a friggin’ internet poll. They are for amusement value and nothing else.

  • Shel

    Win!

@john, sorry to be a Monty Python nerd, but she was actually found guilty by virtue of weighing the same as a duck. And I think the line was “it’s a fair cop,” which in British English is roughly “okay, you got me.”

Heh heh. The headline at US News is now “Atheists crash poll”:

Yesterday, the Friendly Atheist blog posted this U.S. News poll about the Obama White House’s new tradition of opening the president’s rallies with a prayer. The blog urged readers to take the poll and attempt to reverse the results, which had 66 percent of participants supporting the White House prayers and 34 percent opposed.

Mission accomplished. Today, the poll results show support for the White House prayers has dipped to around 12 percent and that opposition has risen to nearly 90 percent.

    Boo yah!

    “Atheists crash poll”:

HA! Anyway, Mr. Gilgoff frequently and (more or less) objectively writes about atheists and the growing numbers of non-religious people. He’d be a good interview Hemant.

  • «bønez_brigade»

Pharyngulation may have had an impact on it, but Hemant was the one mentioned by the site; so, consider that poll friendliatheized×2.

  • John

    Shel,

Oh, yea, I’d forgotten they weighed the same.

I’ve never heard a good reason to need to apologize for being a Monty Python nerd.
