We’re Gonna Need a Bigger God

I’m pretty sure this is in reference to the Hitchens vs the Four Apologists panel at the Christian Book Expo last month. But it could apply to many of the debates in which Hitchens participates.

It certainly summarizes the panel discussion well:

Ahem… I think you’ve pictured Hitchens with the wrong kind of drink.

Yeah, and like he’s athletic enough to ride a shark.

BTW, since when are Strobel and Craig “elites”? If it wasn’t for this blog, I’d have never heard of them.

Lee Strobel is big with evangelical Christians. Pretty much every evangelical Christian I’ve met (and I know quite a few, and I had to research the “denomination” for work at one point), has at least heard of the guy. And I know plenty that recommend it to non-Christians.

Strobel is not, in my opinion, a Christian elite whatsoever, though certainly an influential popularizer of evangelical Christianity. Craig, on the other hand, certainly is elite, being a professional analytic philosopher and theologian who routinely debates other professional philosophers. Have you read about his debate with Hitchens? From what I gather around the blogsphere alike, Craig dominated, which was, I think, largely to be expected. At least in that instance, this picture strikes me as silly.
