Apparently there are no X's in the bible, but only two small spots where there isn't a T:

Hello again,

Well, I decided to look up the unicorn issue.

- The LXX version of the bible, written in Greek by Jewish scholars between the 3rd and 1st century BC, specifies Unicorns (monokeras, as in "one-horn").

- The Vulgata, the version written in Latin during the 5th century AD, transforms them into Rhinoceros (as in "nose-horn").

- The KJV, written in the 17th century AD from various sources, including the LXX and Vulgata, goes back to Unicorns.

- The Catholic version (history can be seen here --> http://www.cathtruth.com/catholicbible/earlyhis.htm), as well as others, have Bulls and/or Oxen. An interesting, maybe not so unrelated info I found in the site above: "In the late 1500's, there were about 120 Greek versions with 30,000 different readings. For example, one rendition had Isaiah 7:14 using neanis (young woman) instead of parthenos [virgin]. "

Regards,

Unicorn - 0

Now, I wasn't expecting that. I know there are unicorns in this book.

If I use NETBible (thanks Monkfishy), I get 9 hits BUT instead of unicorns I get Oxen.

Since I was raised a catholic (and believe me, we never hear about unicorns in this book), I went and checked some of these hits at Catholic.net

There too unicorns have been doctored into bulls and oxen.

Does anyone know when these changes were made into the bible? Are unicorns in the latin/greek versions?

Thanks.

Yes, most of Christianity was invented well after the New Testament was written.

Eduardo: cum is in 4 cases part of 'cumin', the remining is part of Aramaic (?) word 'cumi' :(

I got 'whor*' (91 hits, whore 55, whoring 36)

From Bible search it looks like 'whoring' is always in sense of 'abandoning God' (eg. for another one).

Bleatmop: If you want to see how much God is concerned with male genitalia, look up 'circumcise' ;) ... 61 hits, half in OT, half NT.

And speaking of genitalia, you could count much of a "nakedness" hits.

Bleatmop Says:
June 25th, 2009 at 2:36 pm

tit – 59
womb – 82
breast 79

penis – 0
scrotum – 0
testicle – 3

Seems like god is much more concerned with female anatomy than male.

Maybe because "god" is male?

Zeus is in Acts.

Basically it looks like Paul was trying to convert some romans who were Zues worshippers, and convincing them not to sacrifice stuff like pagans. Also a fun 'faith-healing' moment...i guess that never gets old.

8 At Lystra a man was sitting who had no strength in his feet, lame from his mother’s womb, who had never walked. 9 This man was listening to Paul as he spoke, who, when he had fixed his gaze on him and had seen that he had faith to be made well, 10 said with a loud voice, “Stand upright on your feet.” And he leaped up and began to walk. 11 When the crowds saw what Paul had done, they raised their voice, saying in the Lycaonian language, “The gods have become like men and have come down to us.” 12 And they began calling Barnabas, Zeus, and Paul, Hermes, because he was the chief speaker. 13 The priest of Zeus, whose temple was just outside the city, brought oxen and garlands to the gates, and wanted to offer sacrifice with the crowds. 14 But when the apostles Barnabas and Paul heard of it, they tore their robes and rushed out into the crowd, crying out 15 and saying, “Men, why are you doing these things? We are also men of the same nature as you, and preach the gospel to you that you should turn from these vain things to a living God, WHO MADE THE HEAVEN AND THE EARTH AND THE SEA AND ALL THAT IS IN THEM. 16 “In the generations gone by He permitted all the nations to go their own ways; 17 and yet He did not leave Himself without witness, in that He did good and gave you rains from heaven and fruitful seasons, satisfying your hearts with food and gladness.” 18 Even saying these things, with difficulty they restrained the crowds from offering sacrifice to them.
