The Christian Version of Sarah Palin’s Book

Former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin signed a book deal a while before this weekend’s debacle.

No word on the amount she is getting paid for it (rumors place her advance at ~$7,000,000), but what we do know is that there will be two versions — the “regular” version and the “Christian” version:

Soon Palin will take a crack at her own story: she has signed a book contract for an undisclosed but presumably substantial sum, and has chosen Lynn Vincent, a senior writer at the Christian-conservative World magazine, as co-author of the memoir, which is to be published next year not only by HarperCollins but also in a special edition by Zondervan, the Bible-publishing house, that may include supplemental material on faith.

Questions:

  • Which version will sell more copies?

  • What additions will be included in the special Bible-ier edition?

  • Will she stop writing the book halfway through for unspecified reasons? (That one, via Michael Schaub)

I would guess the Christian version sells better. And she’ll somehow find a way to compare her own journey with that of Jesus.

    I mean anything she “writes” is already going to be a christian version.

    Harper Collins is a part of R. Murdoch’s empire I’m not surprised they’re the ones publishing her book, I also wouldn’t be surprised to find out out if Zondervan is owed by Mr. Murdoch as well.

    Autobiography is the most egregious form of fiction. Somebody else said that, but I agree.

    I’m guessing that the only people who will be interested in reading this book will be the ones who want the bible-y version. If somebody is not interested in reading the bible-y version, they are probably going to be reading something worthwhile instead.

    This kind of thing is typically done with her making audio recordings and passing them along to the ghost writer. I doubt that she will actually compose any written prose at all.

    1) The Christian one, because NewsMax will offer it for $4.95 just like they do with Ann Coulter’s books.

    3) No. She will never start. The ghost writer will do all the writing.

    Unless the non-bible version is also the porn version I don’t see how it will sell better than her cutting and pasting her name over jesus’ in the new testament and calling it her life.

    I second what Mark said. Yes, Palin holds some nutty beliefs, but that doesn’t mean she’s stupid. And I’m guessing the Christian version will sell better.

    Agreed. However, the fact that she regularly says astoundingly stupid things makes me think she probably is in fact stupid.

    Ditto to the ghost writer comments. Someone who can’t name a newspaper that she reads probably isn’t going to write a book herself.

    Ahh. This explains why she resigned as Governor.

    If you’ve read or even heard about the transcript of her resignation speech, and it’s speculated that she wrote it herself, you’ll understand why a ghost writer would be necessary.

    Aren’t memoirs normally written by people with years and years of experience and stories to call upon? Not vacuous bubble heads who need to read the instructions on a packet of peanuts?

    So to clarify: she’s making two copies of the book to leave out some religious stuff in one of them? Isn’t it her duty as a Christian to preach the Gospel? Cutting out her beliefs to sell more copies of a book? That sounds like something an infidel would do.

    The super-Christiany version will probably sell better. Likely it will be hyped through various religious book clubs, possibly even be a “selection of the month”, and portray Palin as the long suffering martyr for her faith . They really eat that stuff up.
