Liz,

in your 'list' of choices you forgot some:

4.) I've been raped. I'm pregnant now. What can I do? I can choose to bring this to full term, knowing that everyday I'll be reminded of the horror of that moment, but I'm not sure I could live with that...

5.) OMG, the doctors have discovered that I have an ectopic pregnancy, I will probably die if I don't abort the baby...

and as a registered nurse you should know that the fetus is not conscious of pain until around the 26th week...

Liz, in reference to the term anti-choicers.
The term is used because they advocate a legal restriction on the choices available to women.
Traditionally, these people have called themselves pro-lifers, but that is a mis-nomer, since statistically, they are the same people who support the death penalty, and restrict access to loving homes for those very same unwanted children, if the prospective adoptive parents are not married, or heterosexual, or both. In other words, these people show more compassion for a fetus than for the living. And let's not forget the murderers of pro-choice doctors, killing in the name of "life".

So, yes, "anti-choicer" is the newer, more accurate term for people who want a women's choices restricted.

And Hemant: For you to be a man standing up and saying abortion is okay, when you have never been pregnant, have never missed a period, have never had the monthly blues or even felt the deep agonizing depression many women who have abortions sink into shortly after…well, gosh…I think I, as a woman, will start blogging and giving men advice about their minds and bodies.

Liz, I don't know if that's a fair thing to say. You're telling all men they're not allowed to have an opinion on this matter.

That said, I think my opinion -- that a woman should decide what's best for her -- is not bad advice at all. It's leaving the decision to the person who has to deal with the consequences either way.

I think a man deciding that abortions should be banned -- in essence, telling women what to do with their bodies -- is wrong. And yet, that is what happens in many states.

Do some women suffer from depression after an abortion? I'm sure they do. Do some women suffer because they were forced to bear a child they never wanted in the first place (due to rape)? I'm sure they do.

That's not the issue. I think the decision should be left to individual women, not to a man who thinks he knows what's best for her, and not to anyone who thinks their decision is the best one for everyone else.

Beth: "That’s because the anti-choicers have no logic"

Is that the new, cool term now for people who are against abortion? "Anti-choicers"? Look, Beth, I believe you (and the rest of you who use that term) have choices, many of which are guided by laws we have.

But, we also have moral choices. If you have a freezer full of food, and you knew an old lady who lived next door to you had no money and no food, whether or not you gave her food would be your moral choice. Other people who lack morals and have no conscience may say, "Hey, I need to look out for myself. If she starves, too bad. That's not my problem. You can't force me to give her food; that's my choice." Morally, that's their choice, as barbaric as it may seem.

I work as a Registered Nurse in a large emergency department. I have seen miscarried "fetuses" at various ages. One in particular was a 13 week old "fetus" (I hate that term because this was obviously a human being). It was a tiny boy. He looked like a toy action figure, he had little toes, little fingers, you could see his little knees, the tiny muscles on his legs, his little nose, and his mouth was open. He had no baby fat yet, so he looked like a miniature man. It really struck me, because people abort "fetuses" much older than this little guy, and they try to say how it doesn't matter, or that it's the mothers' choice, or this "creature" is not yet a life and is insignificant. Well, I think it's tragic. No one can tell me this tiny, miniature man would not be able to feel pain.

Morally, I think the only choices regarding reproduction a woman (or "girl", in this day and age) should worry about are: 1.) Should I or shouldn't I have sex? 2.) Should I skip having sex since I'm out of birth control? 3.) Oops! I got pregnant! Now, should I attempt to be a responsible adult and raise this child to the best of my ability (since it's not his/her fault you decided to have unprotected sex), or should I have this baby and give it to a grateful couple who are unable to have children of their own?

And Hemant: For you to be a man standing up and saying abortion is okay, when you have never been pregnant, have never missed a period, have never had the monthly blues or even felt the deep agonizing depression many women who have abortions sink into shortly after...well, gosh...I think I, as a woman, will start blogging and giving men advice about their minds and bodies.

If I were going to compare the Holocaust to another sin in terms of its gravity and evil, it would be to abortion.

she forgot "...unless of course they're homosexual babies"

I love how she quotes CS Lewis to support her bigotry but CS Lewis himself supported gay rights even though he believed it was a sin. CS Lewis is like Jesus. You can cherry pick whatever he says to support your views. If you believe we should vote Republican, then CS Lewis would vote Republican.

I don't think that the IFI is morally equivaliant to the KKK but the rationalizations that they use to justify homophobia is similar to the rationializations that members of the KKK use to justify racism.
