SMBC explains where Westboro Baptist Church gets it from…:
Now it all makes sense!
If you roll over the red button at the bottom of the comic you’ll see that the original message was “God hates fatties.”
What the hell? So they’re protesting bigotry with bigotry. Swell. Real swell.
God hates fatties? What’s God got against blunts?
The roll-over “fatties” did somewhat diminish an otherwise great comic. The rollover should have said “God hates figs”. Then it would have been perfect. (Except for the “fig anti-defamation league”).
God hates fatties – so roll a pinner instead.
But you know, even assuming this Jesus person really existed in the first place, even if Jesus never said anything regarding homosexuality, even if Jesus may have been fine with homosexuality (which I doubt very seriously), even if Jesus might’ve even been gay himself (also unlikely), I mean, really, who gives a shit?
I couldn’t care less what Jesus’ opinion was on homosexuality any more than Paul, Confucius, Charlemagne, Voltaire, Jefferson, Stalin, Gandhi, Gerald Ford, the Olsen twins, or Billy Ray Joe Bob down the street from me.
So g0d hates the corpulent gent and the lady with big bones. Sod him. I know I could do with losing a few pounds but there’s no need to get personal.
I actually quite like the ‘god hates fatties’ rollover. In a way, it is quite clever.
Surely it makes the point that we consider such a statement unacceptable, and yet many people think ‘god hates fags’ is not only acceptable, but the height of morality? If the statement had not been so garbled through retelling after retelling, then people would be going around ‘hating fatties’ because their god told them to do it.
@idioteque and @Greg,
You both have very good points. I’m starting to appreciate the subtle point of having the original statement by Jesus being another offensive statement to illuminate the point that the Jesus character was just a man with biases and flaws like everybody else whose every word shouldn’t be worshiped and mindlessly followed even if the words were flawlessly communicated (as in the rollover).
“I couldn’t care less what Jesus’ opinion was on homosexuality…”
That’s a shame because if you ignore all the lying Christians and the crap they spew on a daily basis, and you read the Bible for yourself then you would discover that Jesus’ opinion is that it doesn’t really matter if homosexuality is a “defect” or not because ALL PEOPLE are defective yet all people have value and worth in the eyes of God.
Now that’s a message I can be proud of!
I thing WBC should go to England with their “god hates fags” signs. People would be peeing themselves laughing at them. (Because in England a fag is a cigarette).

You’re proud of the fact that some people think that everyone is defective? o.0
“ALL PEOPLE are defective yet all people have value and worth in the eyes of God.”
Cut out this middleman, this interloper God.
All people have their defects but also have value and worth as people.
That I submit is an even better message.
Well, it’s possible that one of Jesus’s miracles portrayed in the Bible was a homosexual lover of a Roman Centurion.
