The Secular Student Alliance 2010 Conference

The Secular Student Alliance 2010 Conference will take place July 23rd-25th in Columbus, Ohio. I know I’m biased because I’m on the SSA Board, but I love this conference because I meet more young atheists than I do any other time of the year. The speakers are interesting, the camaraderie is fantastic, and the after parties are wonderful. You learn everything from running a group (if that’s your thing) to what college atheists are doing across the country.

This year, speakers include Greta Christina, Jen McCreight, some brown dude — you know, I’ll just steal this from Jen…

Registration for SSA student members is only $25 and it’s well worth the minimal cost. The price will go up on July 1st so get on it now!

Need some financial help to get to the conference? We can help.

See? No excuse not to come.

Hope to see you there :)

When was the last time I saw a list of prominent atheists where the men were in the minority?
    If ever, long ago.

Who cares? Or should we start having affirmative action for “women in atheist conferences” now? And a college major about it too?

Well I think I’ve got a reason to go.

(Assuming Ms. Galef isn’t a bra-burning feminist liberal.)

So, OneSTDV, you think it’s entirely irrelevant that women are the majority of keynote speakers at this conference… EXCEPT when you want to get into their pants?
Well, thank you for making it clear exactly why its relevant, and important.

On a completely different note- conference sounds awesome! Wish I was in the right hemisphere ;)

Hey! Where are the white male representatives of the atheist movement? How about a little inclusive diversity here?

    ;^D

I broke down and decided to come even though I’m not a student…I hope that money goes to something awesome.

Additionally I accidentally bought a Zoo trip pass even though I have to work…crap.

    @OneSTDV

Galef is even hotter when you read her writing. Hope you can still pay attention.

“Fortunately, even though I think the blade of Hume’s guillotine is inescapably sharp in the philosophical world, I don’t think it has the power to sever much in the real world. Because, thanks to some combination of evolutionary biology and social conditioning, I do enjoy being kind, and I do want to reduce other people’s suffering — and I would want to do those things even without a rational justification for why that’s ‘moral.’ And I believe most people would feel the same way.”

    (Rationally Speaking: Hume’s Guillotine.)

Stop making me want to go to something I probably cannot go to! :(
