Meet Other Atheists After the Jon Stewart/Stephen Colbert Rally in DC

A week ago, I mentioned that I would be attending the Jon Stewart “Rally to Restore Sanity”/Stephen Colbert “March To Keep Fear Alive” in Washington, D.C. on 10/30/10. (Soooooooo excited…)

With the help of the American Humanist Association, there’s now a way to make that day even better.

We’ve reserved space for a gathering of about 150 people at the Lauriol Plaza Restaurant!

It’s just a short walk from the AHA offices and a few blocks away from the Dupont Circle Metro Station. The party starts at 4:00 p.m. — the rally/march is supposed to end at 3:00 — and there will be salsa. How can you resist.

    I’ll be traveling from Austin to attend the rally but my flight back leaves around 6pm that Saturday. If it weren’t for that, you could have counted me in.

    I know this is very conspiracy theory, but I really wonder if someone (like James O’Keefe) will have lots of people come to the rally and act the opposite of what is intended. AKA act like tea party people to give the whole thing a bad name so Fox News and the right can say “See! They are the same!” You know how much they hate Jon Stewart.

    I don’t think there will be any shortage of material for fox to twist into anything fox wants to portray. Hell, they could make mother teresa into a saint.

    Except for it being in the US I wish I could go.

    I’ve got a foot injury I’m babying in the hopes of one day running again, so initially I hadn’t planned to be out on The Mall that weekend, but…we’ll just see if I have an urge to sabotage my health in favor of all this.

    AARRGGHH! I just got BACK from DC last week! If I could’ve known ahead of time, I could’ve rescheduled my vacay. Oh well, I will enjoy vicariously through Hemant.

    maybe… I’m busy on Saturday, but I’m free on Sunday (the actual date). Of course I would have to work things out with the family. I’m not exactly a totally free agent.

    What a bummer. I’ll be in from Dallas but my flight leaves at 6:30. I hope I can drop by for at least a few minutes.

    Is there any plan to meet at the rally itself and hang out during that?

    I’m not going to the rally, but I’ll meet some of you at Lauriol Plaza. It’s a nice place. I encourage the use of public transportation, though, as finding a parking spot can be tough.

    Thanks Richard. I had the weekends mixed up. I see now that it is the weekend of Oct 30th which is a Saturday. I appear to be free that weekend. If I can make it, then save me a table for those of us over 45. Well uh… I mean over 48… :)
