The Importance of Failure

During The Amazing Meeting 7 (in 2009), Adam Savage from Mythbusters spoke about the importance of his failures and how they shaped him. JREF has now put the video online:

Any particular timestamps you’d recommend watching?

If you’re a JREF supporter, by the way, they’re currently in the middle of a fundraising drive called the “Season of Reason” campaign — proceeds will support educational programs (grants, scholarships, workshops, classroom materials, etc).

If you can help them out, please do — you can even get a nice Surly-Ramic holiday ornament :)

All your donations will be matched up through the first $100,000 raised, so there’s no better time to give to them.

Done. Can’t wait for my Surly-ramic festivus ornament!

I like 30:35 and a couple minutes past. He ties in his stories of failure to ideas about shaping character (and skepticism).

    Hermant,
Speaking of failures, I keep getting failure notices when trying to email you a link. I tried several and finally Hermant@friendlyatheist.com went part way. What’s your real contact addy? assuming you want email…

Anyway thought you might want to check this out http://www.treehugger.com/files/2010/12/religious-grren-dragon.php?campaign=th_rss

Pssst! Defiantnonbeliever! His name’s not “Hermant”. It’s Hemant. That might help ya.

Season of Reason. Also the current Acura ad campaign.

  • http://friendlyatheist.com Hemant

@Defiantnonbeliever — There’s always the Contact tab at the top of the page. Or the “email me” link in the sidebar…

  • Defiantnonbeliever

@Yet Another Atheist, and Hemant, opps m-/, sorry about my mistake and thanks. I had tried the contact tab link but that was the problem as the addy seemed confusing, I’ll try the sidebar as well in the future and try be more thorough.

On the value of failure, here’s one of my favorite quotes:
“You don’t learn nothin’ from your successes!”
Don’t remember the source – could be a baseball manager.
