A new set of atheist billboards reading “Don’t believe in God? You are not alone” are going up in Florida thanks to the Orlando Coalition of Reason:

Reaching out to the like minded isn’t the only goal of the effort: “We want people to know that one can be a decent human being and contribute to society without belief in a god,” said Jack Maurice, coordinator of Orlando CoR. “You’ll find us everywhere. We’re your friends, your neighbors, your coworkers and your family members.”
[National director of the United Coalition of Reason Fred] Edwords added: “We selected the Easter season because it’s at holiday times like these that people like us become most aware of the need for community. Therefore, what better time to inform our audience that such a community of like minded people exists?”
The cost of putting up the six billboards for one month is $6,250 (paid for by the United Coalition of Reason).
You know the press can’t resist a good atheism story:
Daniel Sandoval is a member of the Secular Student Alliance, college students who do not believe in God, they call themselves non-theists. “A non-theist is someone that thinks scientific minded with our natural world with reasonable thoughts,” said Sandoval.
He says these billboards are not made to offend people, they’re here to educate. “This is just another way of networking for non-theists. Right now during the Easter holiday and Christmas is when people like us need a community. We’re there to tell them we’re here, they’re not alone,” Sandoval.
If you’re in the area, the groups making up the local coalition can be found here. Check them out and attend a meeting!
