Let's Not Forget Our Secular Founding Fathers

Jeffrey Weston reminds us that our country’s founders had very secular views about the world, regardless of the bile David Barton likes to spew (click image to enlarge):

On a similar note, Rob Boston of Americans United also offers a few quick reasons we’re not a Christian nation.

Hemant, you may want to know that “Bachmann for President” ads are showing up on this page. I found that kind of ironic.

When people think America was founded on Christian principles is one of those things I really hate. My step-mum is an Evangelical Christian, and I have provided evidence after evidence that it wasn’t, but she says that people that believe it isn’t based on Christian principles are brain-washed and misled and we should stop following ‘mass media’. I shake my head at this…. At such times, I lose a little hope for humanity. She literally will take anything that seems to supports her claim as fact and disregard the rest as ‘brain-washed’, ‘misled’, or ‘atheistic and humanistic agenda’.

    Er…ANYWAY, NICE COMIC. Yeah.

The only quarrell I would have with the link to AU you gave is: Shouldn’t it be ‘Christian Nation Lie’ rather than ‘Myth’?

What was their guiding principle in the formation of the new country?
