I’ve Been Exposed…

ChristWire finally revealed the truth about me yesterday.

Turns out I’m a Smiling Mexigay:

Poor humor, however, is not the most troublesome aspect of this website. Neither is the horrid design, with illegible Satanic markings next to a picture of a smiling Mexigay.

… In its entirety, the “Friendly Atheist” blog represents a sustained propaganda machine designed to spread the Chinese homo lie that atheists can be friendly. Friendship is a gift from the Lord and without the Lord no friendliness can exist. Reading just a few posts of this atheist fecal word vomit blog makes it clear that the author is far from friendly, and is a hateful heathen sinner bigot like all atheists are.

I know. You’re gonna say ChristWire is a Poe or a parody… but before you jump to that conclusion, there are actually some words of wisdom in the article regarding (*ahem*) a recent incident:

… how are we to believe that atheists can be friendly when they can’t even be friendly to each other?

The writers of Christwire sometimes disagree with each other on minor issues, but our community forms deep and loving bonds strengthened by Christ.

Dammit, I hate it when satirists make a good point at our expense…

(Side note: A friend saw this article and said to me, “I just assumed you self-identified as a Mexigay.” Well played…)

  • Kimmerz

Apparently all brown people are now mexigays.

  • http://www.reuschelles.com Victor

    Well played indeed.

  • Star Stuff

    @Kimmers, Or terrorists. Or both.

  • jay

My favorite line is “Chinese homo lie”.

  • http://www.dday76.net Jason

how could you post this article and not put a picture of the article’s author Cool Tom Kimbo?

  • Erica

We debate amongst ourselves because we THINK and QUESTION and LEARN. We aren’t bound by Christ’s love, we are bound by a common intellectual curiosity and dissatisfaction with the same old religious lies.

  • Star Stuff

Oh how Christian of these people. I love it when they pass judgement – calling names shows they have no way of supporting their lies & attacks. Only proves they’re ignorant hypocrites without a shred of class.

    You Chinese Mexigay!

  • http://www.remijdio.com Nick Johnson

They’re totally right! The atheist wars have been raging on for decades now with no end in sight! If only the Invisible Pink Unicorn and Flying Spaghetti Monster would make peace. X-D
Atheists disagree with each other SO MUCH we’ve made several denominations of atheism…

Christwire is a poe, I’m sure, but… what about all those commenting? If those folks are all poes, they’re very, very good at it.

  • Robert Stoll

Yet then, if friendliness is from a deity, then how come there is conflict within his church as well?

  • http://reedbraden.com Reed Braden

Hemant, how have you kept this from me? You know the two of us were meant to be…

  • http://agarzola.com Alfonso

I’m a straight, male, Puerto Rican atheist. My skin isn’t brown, but can I still be considered a Mexigay? Pretty please?

    Examples of Christian ‘friendship’:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Philadelphia_Nativist_Riots

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Requerimiento “used to justify the assertion that God, through historical Saint Peter and appointed Papal successors, held authority as ruler over the entire Earth; and that the Inter Caetera Papal Bull, of 4 May 1493 by Pope Alexander VI, conferred title over all the Americas to the Spanish monarchs”

Dr. Michael McDonnel wrote in The ‘Conquest’ of the Americas: conquistadors regarded plunder, slaves, and tribute as the just desserts for their efforts in forcing pagans to accept Christianity and Spanish rule. After all, the conquistadors did scrupulously adhere to the Spanish law of conquest by reading the requerimiento, which ordered defiant Indians to immediately accept Spanish rule and Christian conversion, or face punishment in a “just war”. The requerimiento announced that “The resultant deaths and damages shall be your fault, and not the monarch’s or mine or the soldiers”. Attending witnesses and a notary usually certified in writing that the requerimiento had been read and ignored by the usually uncomprehending Indians, thus justifying the death and destruction that so often followed.

http://www.smithsonianmag.com/history-archaeology/Americas-True-History-of-Religious-Tolerance.html “the first encounter between European Christians in America ended in a blood bath”,
“Puritan fathers of the Massachusetts Bay Colony did not countenance tolerance of opposing religious views. Their “city upon a hill” was a theocracy that brooked no dissent, religious or political.”

  • Rebel Yurack

I legit LOL’d when I read “Friendship is a gift from the Lord and without the Lord no friendliness can exist.”
I found that funnier than “smiling mexigay” and “Chinese homo lie”
Anyone else? No? Guess it’s just me…

  • Emmy

While I agree with the comment on the horrid design (sorry), what kind of word is Mexigay? Doesn’t it take one to know one? And does this mean we can make up names for them? Religi-upid maybe?

  • Preston Pearson

Is christwire a christian satire site? It can’t be real? can it? Nobody is THAT narrow minded.

  • Ali

Once again, I agree with you. Recent events have turned me off of A-pride, for sure.

  • Rich Samuels

Hmm Mexigay doesn’t have an entry in the urban dictionary. Seems like the perfect opportunity to get your face next to an entry in a dictionary.

  • http://www.laughinginpurgatory.com/ Andrew Hall

Hmmmm… at least Mexigay is different from the dreaded Maxigay.

  • http://www.actok.org William Poire

I do have to agree that the font you use is practically illegible!

  • Matto the Hun

I’m sad we all cannot be friends anymore.

Or am I sad because only Satan gives sadness?

    Oh I’m so confused…

  • Kari

Here is a post where he promotes the Japanese homogay foreplay tool “Sudoku.”

Since when is sudoku homosexual foreplay? I’ve just found it annoying, where can I find this amazing, erotic sudoku?

  • http://pedagogic-verses.blogspot.com Luc Duval

    Very funny poe.

  • Danish Atheist

I’ll go lay down in the sun so I can be a brown mexigay too! No wait … there IS no sun here, only polar bears :( Oh gawd dammit!

  • muddy

They are definitely correct concerning the font of your header image. It was hideous the first day you put it up and it remains so till this day. I stopped looking at your smiling Mexigay face that day and I always try to look away as the page loads until I can scroll past the banner. Please change the banner so that I can once again stare at your glorious face.

  • http://honesttogodless.blogspot.com Matt Foss

It stings because it’s true. Your blog was one of the few voices of reason in the farce that recently played out.

  • Pix

I prefer to think of the atheist community as a family where you lock horns a lot, but still *totally* love each other. It’s the “I can say whatever I want about my family, but you have to shut up” thing.

Having said that, it seems nice that the Mexigays are working with the Chinese to push the homo agenda. Go multicultural sexy time!

  • Daniel

Could somebody tell me if this is a parody/satire, or if it is legit, because it’s just so hilarious? Please let me know.

  • t

I wish you were a mexigay, I’d propose to you today and say lets fly to NY tonight.

  • Stephen

Sheesh. “Homo lie” should be hyphenated. :p

  • Claudia

That was funny enough that I’m going to forgive you for getting me to read another post on this subject at a moment where I swore I’d do something else.

  • http://silveroutlinedwindow.wordpress.com/ Shannon

I don’t know if I should be offended or laughing at their article ;)

  • JenniferT

I just think it’s cool that they’ve given such recognition to one of my top five favourite Mexigay blogs in the world. Well, top ten, anyway.

  • Matt

The more stuff I see coming from Christwire, the more I suspect that something else is going on there. I’m just suspicious that it’s not what it claims to be. Either it’s satirical and people are actually falling for it, or it’s being used to identify wacko fundamentalists for one reason or another, or something. It’s just too damned wacky to be taken at face value.

  • annette

I don’t think I’m ever getting over “sinful heathen anus death lie”
    *tears running down face*

  • Claudia

It’s just too damned wacky to be taken at face value.

Christwire is and always has been satire. Very well done. Sometimes the comments threads, where people on both sides take it at face value, are even funnier than the articles.

  • http://criticallyskeptic-dckitty.blogspot.com Kev Quondam, Kevque Futurum

    Mexigay… eh?

  • Jonathan

huh… weird. Looks like my gay-dar works perfectly. My mex-dar is off, though.

  • johnnyflapjack

Oh for the love of god, how is it that any of you are not aware that Christwire is a satire/poe operation? Offended? C’mon man. Hopefully the FDA will soon approve a drug for Satire Detection Deficiency Syndrome.

  • http://religiouscomics.net Jeff P

If it is posted on the web, it must be true.
    Mexigay.

  • ShavenYak

They are definitely correct concerning the font of your header image. It was hideous the first day you put it up and it remains so till this day.

Looks like some folks haven’t figured out that it’s meant to be read umop apisdn.

  • Angel

Yes, it is a satirical site. A very very well done one.

  • Natalie Sera

That’s why he put it in real print just below the fancy letters! :-)

When I was teaching ESL, my oh-so-intelligent supervisor came in and commented on the long, thick, beautiful jet-black braid of the (East) Indian girl, and I had to tactfully tell her that the girl was from El Salvador.

At last!! We know where the Native Americans come from!! Hemant, you too can be an ancestral Mexigay!!

  • Emily

I just sent this link to my boyfriend in Afghanistan. He was allowed to get to friendlyatheist.com just fine, but when we tried to go to ChristWire, it was blocked due to it being “tasteless”. I find this highly amusing.

  • Surgoshan
  • inmyhead

Ok, that is just too funny. I am a red head with lots and lots of freckles, I bet that puts me in the mexigay category too since I am basically one big freckle.

  • Steve

I must confess that I sincerely hope this isn’t a poe, because “Smiling Mexigay” is the funniest thing I’ve heard all week and it’s so much better if it’s not a parody.

Though everybody knows ambigrams are the work of the evil Illuminati, who are clearly Satanists

    :p

  • Andrew

I’m not familiar with Christwire, but two sentences into their article my Poe alarm is already going off:

“The only way ensure avoidance of Satan while browsing the internet is to set your homepage to christwire.org and refuse to click any links that take you off-site.”

    Seriously? SERIOUSLY?!

  • Bryan Johnson

The fact that it’s hard to tell whether this post is satire or not says a lot about right-wing Christian culture…

  • Just a guy

The fact that it’s hard to tell whether this post is satire or not says a lot about right-wing Christian culture…

Or it says a lot about your willingness to accept absurd stereotypes when they go along with your prejudices.

  • Steven

“mexigay” just makes me want to go to Taco Bell for a Mexi-Melt. I can’t not make the assocation.

  • Lesle Alvarado

That was some pretty funny stuff. Cool Tom Kimbo should write for The Onion.

  • Keri

Christwire is absolutely, without a doubt, a satirical site. One glance at the shirts they have for sale in their online store will tell you all you need to know. Another great, similar site is Landover Baptist Church. Classic!

  • James Emery

Hi guys! Just to clear this up, YES, Christwire is a satirical site, in the same vein as Landover Baptist. Please laugh responsibly.

  • Danielle

I thought I was never going to stop laughing when I read this…

  • matteo watkins

There has to be a Mexigay t-shirt in the works… Mexigay Chinese Homo Atheists Unite!!

  • Russell Altizer

You are all crazy; the ambigram banner at the top of the site is excellent.

Also, the easiest way to prove poe on christwire.com is to look at their store where, rather than christian slogans, all the shirts sport the more ridiculous sayings from the site like “Marinated in Sin.” Here’s hoping they make a “smiling mexigay” shirt available for all of Hemant’s fans.

  • johnnyflapjack

I’m not sure I’ve ever encountered any two words funnier than “smiling mexigay.”

  • Kerri

What the heck is a “Chinese homo lie”? And I never knew you were Mexigay… gee willikers, my entire worldview is shot today.

  • Trace

Ah, that would explain one of the comments at your latest EG saga threads.

  • Duane K

Some of the real believers consign each other to hell over those “minor disagreements”; I didn’t see anyone do this over the “recent incident”.

  • http://godconfusion.blogspot.com/ Xanthe Wyse

I like the bit about satanic writings. If I ever get to feature on that site, I’ll know my blog has ‘arrived’

  • Jim Davis

I hate to agree with a satire site, but I have to say that the “Friendly Atheist” banner is all but indecipherable. Your visitors have to accept that it says “Friendly Atheist” as an article of faith. I think most of your site visitors are a bit uncomfortable with that :-)

  • Justin Miyundees

Hemant’s logo is an exercise in point symmetry. I thought it looked like a Scott Kim design – am I wrong? Oh – and Christwire is hilarious (sometimes – but nobody’s perfect).

  • Justin

I’m pretty sure I see a Mexigay on the banner at the top of their website too. Except he’s not smiling.

  • Mark O’Leary

    I call Poe on this.

  • Brian Macker

“Dammit, I hate it when satirists make a good point at our expense…”

It’s not a good point. See we can’t even agree on that. Do you feel less friendly?

  • http://godconfusion.blogspot.com/ Xanthe Wyse

Just checked out the Landover site – it’s more obviously satire upon reading the articles. Christwire seems to suck lots of people in judging by the comments

  • Jon

I’ve always felt that Hemant’s picture was somehow an unconscious attempt at his ego trying to let everyone know how handsome he is.

  • cat

“I used to be black. Then, I was Mexican for a time. For a brief period, I was an Arab, but now I am Mexican again. I am basically a racist Rorschach Test,” said by my uncle, who takes very strongly after the Cherokee side of the family. He also has a rather Irish name, which confuses people even further. Hilariously, his wife is Vietnamese-Cherokee, and their baby has more Vietnamese eyes and light skin like her Irish relatives, so now he gets asked why he has an Asian baby or what country they adopted her from.

  • http://theotherweirdo.wordpress.com The Other Weirdo

So, Hermant, are you “Mexigay” or “Chinese homo”? Which is it? Inquiring minds want to know.
